Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Launches Unsolved Cases Database

HUmboldt County Unsolved Cases, Homicides, and Missing Persons MapPress release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department:

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the launch of a new online database of unsolved missing persons and suspected homicide cases.

The HCSO Unsolved Cases Database features information regarding 57 unsolved missing persons and suspected homicide cases dating back to the 1950’s held by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The database includes victim photos and information, case summaries, and an interactive map plotting the general location of each case.

In addition to the new database, Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal has appointed two deputy sheriffs to the agency’s newly formed Cold Case Unit. The deputies are retired peace officers who have decades of investigative experience and will be exclusively reviewing these unsolved cases for new leads.

“Our Cold Case Unit deputies have been in contact with friends and family of the victims in these cases and are working to develop new leads and suspect information,” Sheriff Honsal said. “But we can’t do this without the public’s help and that’s why this new database is crucial. We hope seeing the faces of these victims and reading the summaries of their cases will help jog a memory or some information that might lead to a resolution. We urge the community to review the database and contact us if you have information to share about any of these cases. Even information that may seem insignificant can lead to the next big break on a case.”

A case is considered unsolved and eligible to be placed in this new database if:

  • There are no known suspects or suspects have been identified but the case lacks sufficient evidence needed to meet probable cause requirements for prosecution;
  • The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is the primary investigating agency on this case;
  • The case occurred in 2019 or earlier.

This database does not include all homicides or missing persons cases for Humboldt County and will be updated as new information is received or progress is made on a case. Some information and/or cases may not be available or listed due to the investigative status of a case.

Anyone with information to share about a case in this database should contact the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539, submit information using our Online Crime Tip Form, or email [email protected].

I believe Karen Mithcell is an EPD case, not the S.O.

You’d think so, but this isn’t a list of missing people. It’s a list of unsolved homicides. Sadly, she has never been found. I hope they do this same type of article for the missing as well. It’s appalling how many there really is.

Yes, the identity of the (alleged) killer is known.

On a separate note, all area residents, but especially the ladies, should have Mr Jones on their radar:

The County desperately needs to hire a new expert investigator team & crime scene detectives with experience from out of the area with high moral character & a track record of solving cases. It’s our tax dollars being consumed for sub-par police work.

Ok “Guest.” Guessing this analysis is based on your abundance of expertise on the matter. Unless you have the stones to voice your opinion using your actual name, please sit down and let the adults take this.

Based on the bullying, I was pretty sure. Thanks for the confirmation. People often get touchy when poor performance (their own or those they care about) is pointed out.

“please sit down and let the adults take this.”

The Sheriff’s Department did “take this” in each and every one of these cases. So far they have failed, so they put out a press release and as a part of it, asked for help. While any or all of these cases may eventually be solved, I’ll bet the loved ones of the missing are tired of “sitting down” and waiting.

Justice for H Duggins. Justice for S Gawboy. Justice for G Rodriguez. Justice for J Lawson. Jistice for Bob the Builder. And on and on…

Excuse me who’s side are you on ? How many missing & murder cases have you personal solved right here in Humboldt county ? Tell me please how many ? How many missing & murder cases has Humboldt county law enforcement solved with you or with out you ?
By now you have more murderers running free in Humboldt county then the missing . You not only have a bunch of free murderers running free. You have a bunch of friends of friends of the murderers that disposed of the body’s of our love ones . Intel this happens to you You wouldn’t speak so easy . Lady Guest spoke LOGICAL LOCICALLY THE HUMBOLDT TRUTH OF THE MATTER . I LIKE STARS
OTHER COMMENT RIGHT ON THE POINT SAID 100%
IT DOESNT TAKE A WARRANT TO SHOW UP AND ASK QUESTIONS FOR ANY MISSING PERSONS CASE . ANY GOOD INVESTIGATOR OR DETECTIVE FOLLOWS UP ON ANY LEADS TIPS HEAR SAY.
ITS CALLED TRUE CRIME.
NOT YOUR NCIS SHOWS YOUR THE ONE THAT MUST BE BASSING YOUR KNOWLEDGE ON HOW YOU SOLVE A CRIME ON YOUR NICS SHOWS

I DO WONDER HOW MANY CASES YOU HAVE HONESTLY SOLVED THAT MAKES YOU SLEEP SO TIGHT AND PROUD .
HAVE YOU PERSONALLY HAD A CHILD HERE IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY MISSING & MURDER ?
MY CHILD DESERVES TO BE FOUND BODY REMAINS AND ALL.
I GAVE BIRTH TO MY CHILD ITS MY RIGHT TO HAVE MY CHILD FOUND
IT IS YOUR JOB TO SOLVE & FIND

> THAT MEANS YOU ADULTS YET nickname BuliderBob
His case. If you all would of followed up on any hear say tips and really pushed forward again & again. You would of most likely at least been able to get enough notes together to have had him found YEARS before the death of the person who said he killed BuliderBob and told you where to go to find him and still BuliderBob has not been found and what its been 15 yr later .
Without the death of that person saying he did it. You still wouldn’t even have that much of BuliderBobs case solved .
A good investigator would of been on top of it and even been able to have saved the one who killed himself over guilt had him spend some time for his crime . He was free and it ate him up alive his guilt He was asked a few questions and you all walk away from not following up on anything. You didn’t come knocking my door to ask questions when the whole family was around me right there any time to come over and ask questions
It didn’t have to go this far .

It did because nobody questions or pays attentions to hear say tips.

Ones in the community knew who killed BuliderBob.
Look how well you listen to the communitys tips.
Two dead now
And BuliderBob still hasn’t been found .
Our children no matter how old they are deserve to be found and this community turn upside down
for answers and solved cases of missing & murder ones
Amen to the Lord of God

You have murderers running free Murderers and friends of friends disposing of body’s
That even know and has a friend working in the Humboldt law enforcement.
I know first hand in my missing person case
I break it down and it leads to someone who has a friend that is police officer in Humboldt county .

Its a small world after all

You’ve made it so easy for ones to get away with murder & dispose of body’s call it missing person
So easy anyone can kill any ones family member in Humboldt county. No body No crime
burn a car
Everyone knows Humboldt law enforcement doesn’t do anything about it .
Nobody fears you
You haven’t solved any to
show your tougher and not a quitter. And that means if it takes going up Rancho Sequoia Road everyday so be it following up on all hear say tips.
That’s a sample
To hear any retired cop or investigator detective bitch a fit about the help this community needs for our missing & murder
The help our love ones deserve When your not supporting us
When your not standing up to say I’m here I volunteer to kick ass with this cold case unit team
Don’t be afraid to learn
Do something about helping us.

What’s the point? It’s not like they follow up on anything. When I reported someone told me a first hand story about the night Robert Tennison was murdered they did absolutely nothing about it. Keep in mind the person who told me lived so close to the So Hum police station that you could see it from her house. They wouldn’t walk 50 feet to ask what she knew. I confronted her after I found out the cops did nothing and she claimed that I was on drugs and I hallucinated the whole thing. I don’t do drugs and I had purposely planned out when and how I was going to ask her and wrote down what she said a few hours later.

People can tell the cops what they heard till they’re blue in the face, but as long as there’s human garbage that’ll hide a murder for a local and undertrained, understaffed burnt out cops, then Humboldt will continue to have a higher than average unsolved murder rate.

How about the kettenpom murders ? My friend Kristine and her boyfriend sky were lost that day. The supposed murderer died in a car crash, running from the police. I know some locals no more than what is being said!

The feds were more interested in the real killers gold bars and looted Iraqi cash that vanished and made it’s way to evergreen storage.

It’s actually quite an amazingly scary story, the feds gave a 5k1 and that murder was actually proffered, and many many more.

I know the case from a federal perspective. I know of zero charges ever filed against said individual regarding anything proffered.

Usually murder is not covered, usually.

Evergreen storage would have a record of the warrant as they would have been served.

The FAA would also have a record of complaints… It wouldn’t be difficult to filter through them and find what your looking for in a “town” of 150. People with extraordinary wealth stand out.

Hell or high water, the strip or pad or whatever it is.

I don’t know how difficult the process would be, perhaps FOIA.

It would be an interesting fishing trip.

And how does this even make sense?
The legal bar for unlawful actions has a higher standard than what you speak.
Please explain clearly so those uninitiated may grasp your “expression”.

I’ll explain it as clear as I can. As screwed up as this sounds, this is pretty standard.

When a big fish lands in the federal pond and has potential information or assets, usually a proffer agreement “queen for a day”, can be struck. This agreement USUALLY is drafted to protect the person proffering from self incrimination as they will be divulging unknown information that will directly link them to crimes previously unknown or unsolved. The proffer agreement is usually very specific. It will not cover murder or rape, or crimes already known unless arranged in specifics.

This particular crime and proffer agreeement fell under NSA CT guidelines for CT (counter terrorism) and a federal seal was put on the case.

I believe in access to the truth, sometimes it is already there and sealed away in a docket.

Unfortunately the HCSO made sure this case will never ever see any action. I say that with all honesty, if the HCSO had not stolen millions in gold durring the federal asset recovery process and subsequently physically beat the federal informant (8 of Humboldt’s finest stomping a guy in handcuffs demanding gold like a leprechaun).

I strongly feel had this never occurred that the feds would have handed him over to Humboldt, the fact is the money was tagged as we’re the bars and the HCSO got caught with there hand in a federal cookie jar and they didnt like it.

Thus the known killer walks today.

To be crystal clear, the TCSO couldn’t be trusted with handling this. They had him, in there jail on a zero bail extradition. He escaped. Legitimately escaped. The chronological order of events superceding this become very very hazy. HCSO was directed by the DA at the AUSA request to locate and detain. This is when the HCSO begin to try to steal already stolen marked bars and cash that were part of the Iraqi pallets that went missing.

Even though the full current list of missing person says it was updated as of 8/18/21, I see at least one name of a found person. Mehalopoulos. She was reported here about a year ago.

Releasing the unsolved information is WONDERFUL! Although a wee bit late. This kind of information should be released sooner because folks die and any clues die with them. At the same time I applaud the release of this data and internet and local sleuths can proceed. Carefully. If anyone gets too close to the truth with the perp on the loose is also in danger and should not confront any suspects but turn their evidence into the officers in charge. Give the packet a hail Mary blessing and be safe not sorry.
