Mendocino County Continues to Seek Redbearded Burglar Accused of Shooting at Deputy; New Surveillance Footage Found

Throughout the day on 05-19-2021, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office along with multiple allied law enforcement agencies conducted a large scale search of the remote area of Elk near Cameron Road in an attempt to locate the suspect in this investigation. The suspect was not located and remains wanted by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents living along the South Coast of Mendocino County, Anderson Valley, Comptche and the western Ukiah hills to be aware of your surroundings when out in forested land.We ask the public if there are any sightings of the suspect, immediately contact law enforcement. We are also asking any property owners who have remote cabins or property to be aware of the potential for a burglary at your location. If you come upon a burglary of your property, please do not approach or enter the residence, contact 911 and law enforcement will respond to investigate. The suspect is believed to still be armed with at least one firearm and is known to steal firearms from dwellings. Be cognizant of where you step as we attempt to identify items of evidence which will help us in determining if any burglaries of structures are related.The Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of the resemblance to Missing Person Dane Elkins from Santa Cruz County. This guy sounds scary. But he is also pretty mobile if he’s been sighted in Ukiah, Philo, Elk and Albion. Maybe searching the forest isn’t as effective as looking for a vehicle that’s large enough to live in. Maybe his backpack is to carry his loot away.

Hmm. If he’s mobile… knows that LE is looking for him, and aware of the detailed photos of his burglaries, he may have moved on to another area. That’s what a reasonable person would do… but I dunno if he’s reasonable tho.
Most folks even if they’re homeless or mobile have those Obama phones. They can register them in other people’s names or obtained from others, traded. It would not surprise me if he has one of those, gives him access to maps and web so he’s aware he’s being looked for. Solar chargers work good. Or while your going through a place charge your accessories. Savvy.
This kid doesn’t look savvy at all, looks to me like he’s out of his league in the woods.
Hopefully, the MCSO was tech savvy enough to have checked the logs of the very few cell towers in the shooting area, that could tell them if he has a phone.
And they could have tracked him from the pings.
Considering there are no publicly reported eyewitness accounts of him after the Low Gap events until now, some images from Feb in Comptche, then the security camera images, inside a house, the night of the shooting in Elk, then he’s likely staying off the roads.
All the while, he has likely been eating and drinking daily for months. Maybe just stolen from cupboards tho…but maybe poaching.
If so, he may be more comfortable and savvy than imagined by some of us.
Not an easy judgement to make from less than a dozen still images.
The area is some rugged and relatively steep country.
Maybe trying to hide from serious charges in another county or state.
Lotsa folks think they can disappear here…some do…

Yes, free phones. Not Biden phones cause they would come w stimulus check attached.
There is no such thing as an “Obama phone.” In fact, the program to provide low income phone service was actually started by Reagan.
Tracking from the pings would be difficult for LE he would likely use it for short periods.
draw a circle around every spot, draw a larger circle around all of them, then flip thru the local HS yearbooks within that area for his suspected age. then go to his parents house.
