If this photo is accurate this is an area where homeless camps were long established. Even had the blessing of Security National, the owner for years. They were to be run out of there if the land gets turned over to the Harbor District. Maybe they just burned them out of there instead.

Leaving aside the inhumanity expressed on the part of the Harbor District and “Uri” if this fire is from a homeless camp it’s one more indication of the dangers of not finding homes for the homeless. You push them out of place x and you get problems in place y. Are they being invited to camp at the evacuation centers? If not, what does that say about us.

Yes I can confirm that this fire occurred at one of the recently abandoned and long standing homeless camps. I went out and took photos and have some photos from February.
One of the nearby camps is still there, albeit abandoned. Looks like they had been run out while they were doing their dishes. Makes one wonder if this is a way for the owner to “clean up”.
These were good people that had done their best under tough conditions to keep it together. I know they were trespassing and some of the other camps were a real mess but these folks are not going to do good on the streets.
I understand there are surveillance cameras out there now so maybe they will catch who did this arson.

What a tragedy.
We are focusing on the adverse impact of homeless on the peninsulas when we could follow science
and focus on loss of wetlands and their functions after the Friends of the Dunes stripped our wetlands of vegetation.
An entire aquatic-system destroyed.
Blame it on the homeless.
