Daughter Commended on Testimony That Sent Her Father to Jail For Sexual Abuse
Press release from the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office:
This morning a Humboldt County jury convicted 38-year-old Eureka resident Seng “Jimmy” Yang of 16 felony charges, including continuous sexual abuse of a child, two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, multiple counts of rape of a 14-year-old child, assault with intent to commit rape, and child pornography.
At age 15, Jane Doe made law enforcement aware of the case by walking into the Eureka Police Department (EPD) and telling them what her father had been doing to her. EPD immediately arranged for an interview of Jane Doe by Child Forensic Interviewer Jed Mefford of the Child Abuse Services Team. EPD took the defendant into custody within hours after Jane Doe’s interview. Prosecution of the case benefited from an extremely thorough investigation by Senior Detective Ronald Harpham, Detective Richard Bise and former EPD Officer Mychal Huynh. Lead investigator Harpham’s exceptional work on this case was reflected in his clear and comprehensive testimony at trial. Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads prosecuted the case with the assistance of District Attorney Investigators Kyla Baxley and Martin Morris, former District Attorney Investigator Martin Perrone, and Victim Witness Advocate Caitlyn LaHaie.
This case relied entirely on the heroic conduct of Jane Doe, which included facing her father during her testimony in court. Many people in law enforcement and the criminal justice system have been inspired by the bravery and resiliency of the now 16-year-old Doe.
The defendant, who faces life in prison, will be sentenced on July 29th at 8:30 by Judge John Feeney.

Save tax payer money and execute
While I appreciate your passion for justice on behalf of victims, as a, now recovered, victim of child sexual abuse, I disagree with this often proposed solution. The abuse I suffered should have been stopped. Some of it was and that has allowed healing. It would have been far more traumatizing to me as a child to have witnessed the mass slaughter of my (very ill) family members.
b. Thank you for speaking your truth.
Executing people costs more money than imprisoning them for life. If you need to satiate your bloodlust, go watch some ISIS decapitation videos on LiveLeak.
I commend Jane Doe for her courage and hope that she finds healing.
Brave young woman. While this happened to her and the other, she is on the way to begin healing.
So glad she was taken seriously, was heard and it was acted on in a timely manner.
She stood up to evil.
It’s not over, but the work has begun!
Not a solution, because rape and sexual abuse is more about power and control than a search for a legitimate and willing sexual partner. Imagine how dangerous this guy would be if he couldn’t get it up and took out his frustration on the intended victim. A long prison sentence will be hell on earth for him.
Why are some cases highly publicized and others like this one there is nothing, until this and still nothing anywhere else.
I hate to pull the race card, but I strongly believe thats the reason why. This is a minority group
Minors and victims of sexual abuse are very sensitive subjects. This has both.
Anyone that does this to a child is not a human. What this creep did to his daughter is incomprehensible – sterilization needs to be part of his sentence – at the very least
