Eureka to Welcome Sister City, Kamisu, Japan, for Tree Planting and Art Exchange in February

This February, the Horai Center DreamMaker Project of the Ink People, and the City of Eureka will welcome a delegation from their Sister City, Kamisu, Japan.  In honor of their visit and the bond between the cities, Eureka plans to plant ten Japanese Cherry Blossom trees in Eureka’s newly established Kamisu Park.The park, located on the south bound stretch of the Redwood Hwy. at the corner of Q st, will host the planting of the tenth tree on February, 5th. at 11am.

In addition to the ceremony, the Ink People’s Tuxford Gallery will host an art exchange show throughout the month of February: Kamisu Art Exchange. Artists are encouraged to submit work in response to pieces gathered from artists in Kamisu, and both will be on display.  Artists’ reception and Opening February 2nd for Arts Alive! The Eureka-Kamisu Sister City Association as a collaboration with the Horai Center and an affiliated member of the Ink People Center for the Arts, is committed to promoting global communities through the exchange of arts and culture while developing bonds between the two sister cities of Eureka and Kamisu. Originally founded in 1991, they have worked to enhance the community’s global awareness through cultural, educational, and humanitarian connections. The organization also brings like-minded people to and from Kamisu and Eureka to develop cross-cultural relationships through youth exchanges, family homestay and cultural events.
