It looks to me like (Rana aurora) Northern Red-legged Frog. Where did you find it? They are on the watch-list for a species in decline here in California as are many other amphibians (sadly). The big old head and body had me thinking bullfrog but the red legs are a dead give away. Congratulations!

Malachi caught him in a little ornamental pond my mom has out in her fern garden.

I’m honored to know that I have a celebrity hiding out in my pond. I wonder if my goldfish recognize how honored they should be to swim daily with Rana aurora.
