A five-vehicle crash occurred around 4 p.m. today on Blakeslee Avenue near R Street in Arcata. Two at least were parked. One person may have had a medical situation and is being taken to a local hospital, according to a witness.

“I heard what sounded like a garbage truck with a dumpster,” Jon Beck, a neighbor told us. “When I got there, the vehicle was full floored [gas pedal down]. When I saw the man, he was mid seizure.” Someone else turned off the vehicle, Beck told us. “[The man’s vehicle] was pinned against a parked vehicle. It took out a grey Acura and a real pretty two-door Mercedes and a Honda.”

First responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and confirmed that all but one individual involved had safely exited their vehicles. The remaining occupant received a possible injury and is being assessed for medical attention.

Traffic along Blakeslee Avenue, located near this area, was temporarily impacted as emergency crews are dealing with the situation.

Details about the cause of the collision are still under investigation.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

A neighbor ran up the block and turned off the truck and stayed with the driver until EMS arrived they said the driver may have had a medical incident. Glad more people and the kids on the block weren’t hurt It was apparently revving and had plowed into a car on the side of the street opposite their direction of travel… there was a lot of burnt rubber on the street and you could smell it blocks away.

The only pretty vehicle in that picture is the old rabbit or pickup. Those things got 50 mpg if diesel glad it looks like it wasn’t injured.

The rabbit doesn’t look to be running condition, unfortunately.

That’s my dad’s rabbit. It’s actually a two-door car. He’s looking at some point.

Prayers for everyone involved. But I pray the most for the driver. Poor person, it’ll be devastating for them to recover, and that’s probably the only source of transportation.

I just pray that the man who was apparently having a seizure will be okay. Glad no one else was injured and are safely out of their vehicles. A big thank you to that kind and caring neighbor who ran up to the truck and turned it off and waited there for medical personal. I am sure you brought him a great deal of comfort. Bless you.
