[UPDATE 6:46 p.m.] Fire at John’s Used Cars and Wreckers North of Eureka

The first responder on the scene reported that the garage area to the rear was on fire. More engines were requested.
Reports from the nearby area indicate that a badly smelling smoke is coming from the fire.
Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 5:13 p.m.: The Incident commander reported over the scanner that there are high voltage power lines in the area that could cause a large power outage if damaged.
UPDATE 5:16 p.m.: The smoke appears to be dissipating somewhat.

Now a four alarm fire. Units responding from at least Arcata, Samoa, and Loleta.

Per scanner, HBF preparing to demolish the building due to fire damage and safety concerns. Calling for PGE to disconnect electrical service.

Rick Gary…I am so sorry yous place caught on fire. I cant believe it. Talk about serious History here in Humboldt. Just when you think things can’t get any worse. In my book anyway.
