[UPDATE] ‘Every Hour Counts,’ San Francisco Mayor Issues Stay Home Order as Concerns About COVID-19 Outbreak Rises

In what some residents characterized as a shelter in place order, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced that, starting tomorrow, residents should “stay at home except for essential needs.”
According to the city website,
The City issued a Public Health Order requiring people to stay home except for essential needs.
Vulnerable populations must stay home. Everyone should stay home except to get food, care for a relative or friend, get necessary health care, or go to an essential job.
It is OK to go outside for walks if you are not in a group.
This order is in effect until April 7.
It may be extended depending on recommendations from public health officials…
This is a critical intervention to reduce harm from the spread of the coronavirus in our community. This is a mandatory order.
All Bay Area Health Officers observed quickly mounting cases and serious illnesses across the region.
Now is the time to do everything we can to prevent the situation from getting much worse in a matter of days or weeks. Every hour counts. We need and appreciate the cooperation of everyone who lives and works in San Francisco to act immediately.
While this news may feel alarming, it is a necessary step to prevent a worsening situation. The patterns of the virus around the world, and in our own state, tell us that moving right now to maximize social distancing and restrict people gathering is the best way to fight the virus and save lives.
If everyone works together, we should be able to adjust to the new rules over the next few weeks.
We know that there will be a lot of questions and concerns at the beginning of this new regimen. This is a major change being taken to protect public health. Please be patient and kind to one another. Together, we will get through this, and our community’s health will be protected.

??What about bus services for those that have no other way to take care of some of there business. Like banking if you live in like Fortuna and your bank is in Eureka???
Katherine, I don’t know about the busses, but you may need to have someone help set you up with online banking. That may be an option for some. All the best.
Bus and rails are operating in the bay area. Bring your own toilet paper and pasta cause all the store shelves are devoid of these essential items.
The buses should still work bec office folks use them. Or..
If you’re over 60, try Redwood Coast Village in Eureka. They may have a volunteer going that way.
??Thanks for the suggestions ??
Mark my words – Martial Law is on it’s way.
Self isolating and self medicating.
Humboldt.
All casinos need to close too!
I have an essential need to bar hop and eat out. Just had a lovely meal and drink at a local watering hole. Support your local business or they will disappear.
Holy crap Batman! I’ve heard on here time and time again that the average American is only two paychecks away from being homeless. This is two paychecks. In a already unaffordable housing area. I hope this is the right thing to do because it’s going to have a huge ripple effect.
Some areas are forbidding foreclosures and evictions for periods of time parallel to social distancing. Our county or (more likely our state) may do that in the near future.
Interesting…

An Effective Treatment for Coronavirus (COVID-19)
(MIT B.S. 2017 ; [email protected])
Summary
Recent guidelines from South Korea and China report that chloroquine is an effective antiviral therapeutic treatment against Coronavirus Disease 2019. Use of chloroquine (tablets) is showing favorable outcomes in humans infected with Coronavirus including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay. US CDC research shows that chloroquine also has strong potential as a prophylactic (preventative) measure against coronavirus in the lab, while we wait for a vaccine to be developed. Chloroquine is an inexpensive, globally available drug that has been in widespread human use since 1945 against malaria, autoimmune and various other conditions.

Hotcoffee, very good! It might not be a bad idea to forward this to small Humboldt, Trinity and Mendo hospitals considering how bad communication is rumored to be.
