On March 8, 2020, at about 2 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received the report of a suspicious object located at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds. The object was reportedly discovered during cleanup for an event that had just ended at the fairgrounds.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team was dispatched to investigate. The object was retrieved and rendered safe by the EOD robot. Upon further investigation, EOD deputies determined that the object was a modified electric device, possibly utilized as a make-shift bicycle/scooter motor, and did not contain explosive materials.
There is no perceived threat to the public at this time.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that if you see something suspicious or out of place in your neighborhood, do not touch or move it, but contact your local law enforcement.

Hunsel’s form of law enforcement dictates that bicycle parts are dangerous and need to be handled by professionals. “We rendered the item safe”.
Goodness gracious what a relief knowing the County’s best is protecting us.
Exactly! How can something that was not dangerous to begin with be “rendered safe?”
“Toxic News”
Is this the 3rd or 4th suspicious device/package EPD/HCSO has responded to in the last year that turned out to be nothing?
Got to wonder about the people who call this stuff in.. I think their more suspicious than these unknown devices/packages.
What level of paranoia would one have to be on to see something on the ground, and think it was “suspicious” in a way that would require LEO’s assistance in order to determine the contents of the device/package?
When was the last time a “suspicious” device/package was discovered in Humboldt, and required LEO’s assistance, that turned out to be something dangerous ?
Better yet, if the contents of the package/device was found not to be dangerous, why is this even news worthy?
Chicken Little strikes again.
If a large event place is shut down, it’s news.
Hyperbole much?
“Large event place” “Shut down”.. lol
The event was over a 3 p.m., the call came in at 4 p.m.
Lol It was already over, your conflating a “blocked entrance” with “shut down”. Context is important, but even more so is responsible journalism.
“The object was reportedly discovered during cleanup for an event that had just (ENDED) at the fairgrounds."
Similar to the coverage of this non event, EOD Deputies response to this, is nothing less than overkill, and simply a waste of resources.
Explain why it isn’t news to the many people that contacted me and other reporters then…
Oh that’s an easy one.. because the “many” people that contacted you and “other” reporters, ( that really sounds overly self important by the way) are the types that would see something on the ground and would come to the conclusion that the object is #1, A “suspicious object”, and #2, that the object could have possibly been intentionally placed there in order to cause harm to others.
Get over yourself, read the comments and move on before I intellectually embarrass you any further.
I am delighted to chat with you. You have such a unique and sweet disposition. And condescend so well.
Can you explain why “other” reporters is overly self-important? Your insight is sure to be of interest.
Kym, I can’t believe the ASSH*** comments about this news. The people who are being negative about this are a bunch of VERY BRAIN DEAD PEOPLE. I would like to send everyone of them over to the Hostile countries that plants booby traps and when someone picks it up or steps on it, it blows that person all to HELL. Is that what they want our Law Enforcement personnel to do and be killed by something to them is overkill? Yea, right. Next time this happens, I hope Law Enforcement comes and get them to just walk up to it and pick it up. It’s a 50/50 chance that it doesn’t explode. I really feel sorry for these morons as they must have been born without a brain. Maybe they can get one from a dead person that may have been blown up. POS.
Land mines are not found in the U.S.
Sad to see people suffering like this,
unaware that they are prisoners of their irrational fears and anger.
Fragile and defenseless, Perpetual victims of conformational bias, where logic is replaced with emotion, and the bounds of reason are stretched far beyond the limits of the imaginations of even the most creative minds.
