On Friday about 6 p.m., a man fell off the Bear Canyon Bridge just north of Garberville on Redway Drive, according to Officer Jason Taylor of the California Highway Patrol. The man was able to make his way back to the road where passersby assisted him until emergency personnel arrived.

An ambulance took the man to the hospital. “He had only minor injuries,” Officer Taylor said.

UPDATE 3:56 p.m.: Family members are telling us that the injured man has major injuries. He is in critical condition…ruptured pancreas…Several fractures to the pelvis…Several broken lumbar vertebrae.”

My medula oblongata is also throbbing with inquisitiveness.

OMG, “fill out this field,” AGAIN!?! Kymy, why you do this to me? (Remember “ The Exorcist”?)

Uh oh, this time I forgot to click the box but it doesn’t matter. This new system sucks. I clicked it before but the new system encourages repetition and error. I’ll Try later and if that doesn’t work, oh well, it’s Springtime. Good luck, don’t quit.

Really of course that’s what ignorance would say. This guy has mental health issues not drug. Oh but you probably think that’s the same and you also probably think nothing is wrong with you and your the picture beside the word “perfect” right? Lok

Please stop. This guy has family that loves him. NONE of us know what his intentions were, and unless you are a family member or his friend, I beg you to show some kindness. Can you even imagine if that were your brother or son or grandson or nephew? There are some very good people that are hurting right now.

Here’s what I have learned to do, when, and if I look the comments…

I scroll down quickly until I see Kym’s name with red background, and then I read that. This has kept me informed with added information, AND saved my sanity.

The inhumane comments made by so many people are just nauseating.

Really, what are family members and friends of this unfortunate doing obsessing on stranger’s opinions on a local news blog. Just blank everyone, including me. No need to add to your stress.

We all have a right to our own opinions, but some people seem to jump to conclusions before they really know whats going on! This man is part of my family and I wouldn’t want this for anyone, but when someone is down they need positive thoughts, not B. S.!!!

I am the woman in the who first came upon him and assisted him until EMS arrived. I do not know him, but I know this. He is human like the rest of us and he was and is still in very critical condition. Please let’s try to support him and his family at this time. Kicking him when he’s already down is not what we are about is it? I just got off the phone with his mother and I asked her what she’d like for me to say to those concerned. It is her hope that we could all join in prayer, good thoughts, well wishes especially tmw morning as he is going in for major surgery to help with his fractured vertebrae which shattered and compressed in areas from the fall and lower lumbar which is fractured into 5 pieces. He also has other fractures and contusions. It’s a miracle that he was able to get himself back up to the top of the road. She said that he could have been paralyzed for life with any movement.

He is not reading what you people write, he’s in and out of conciousness. The positive thoughts are welcome, the negative are deflected. Only his closest family and friends know what he’s been through and what is to come. Sincerely, his Kin.

Its kind of fucked up because a few of my buddies always yell at people to jump when we cruise by the bridge and theyre looking over the edge
More of a suggestion, but than you see something like this its not as funny….
Glad this guys alive
Ill tell them to change up the shit they yell at the homeless
Maybe
“Dont jump unless your fully aware of the effects of gravity on your brittle methed up bones”
Kind of a mouthful really

That is what this group does most often…kick people while they are down. It is despicable. I don’t get it Kim. You are better than all that.

when a person fucks up I firmly feel they should cop to it. For starting a barrage of insensitive bullshit, I truly apologize and will keep this man in my prayers. I apologize to this man, his family, Kym Kemp and her readers for being the first one to throw a stone. I do not think I have ever felt so humiliated in my life. I truly apologize from the entire being of myself.

Thank you for the kind words, and I hope the ignorant will learn.
That young man is my nephew, and he does have mental health issues, AND we love him and are praying for his recovery.
His surgery today went well but that is only a small step in his recovery. It won’t be easy.
More people really should think before they speak.
P.S. Doctor says he could be shuffling around, with help, by the end of the week.

Honestly everyone that’s making a joke of this situation should actually think before typing. You shouldn’t just assume he was “nodding off.” This guy is really hurt, this isn’t funny. And no one knows if he fell, if he jumped, if some crazy person driving almost hit him and made him jump, or whatever else could have happened.
Think before you speak ☺️
