Hwy 36 Closed Due to Flooding
Caltrans is reporting this morning that Hwy 36 is closed in two areas due to flooding. The road is closed east of Carlotta. And, it is also closed just east of the Dinsmore Airport.
We’ll update when we have more information.

Thank you Kym. I would have gone for it:)
?Thank you Kym for the updates.
Well, it looks as if we won’t be going to town today, at least not any time soon!!!
Doesn’t it always flood in Carlotta quite often normally trucks still drive through just no cars or is it closed closed?
If they say it’s closed, it’s your own fault when AAA has to tow your vehicle to the junkyard…
The closure isn’t in Carlotta this time, not yet at least that Mile Marker would likely be somewhere around Swimmers Delight!!!
Couple trucks just went through. I turned my little car around.
It isn’t just standing water in Carlotta. Sometimes there’s a swift current going over the highway.
~the last time i saw it flooding over 36 was right at the Fire Station -the winter after Cal Tran’s subcontractors re-paved 36.
ZIP code 95528 is located in northwest California and covers a slightly higher than average land area compared to other ZIP codes in the United States.
So, east of Carlotta would be after Golden Gate Drive.
Iv pull a lot of cars from the flooded area in Carlotta never had to be rescued yet I guess lifted trucks are good for something lol
As of 9:30am, CalTrans QuickMap shows 36 closed at Carlotta and Dinsmore Airport due to flooding, at Swimmer’s Delight due to a slide.
~thank you much, Dot.
I gotta go out and ‘brave the storm’.
Thanks for the road updates Kym. You provide a wonderful service to your community. From my vantage point in Fortuna, the Eel Valley appears to be 1/3 flooded and it looks fairly deep. Those poor dairy’s and families have their hands full.
Some of the gutters in Eureka look a little high.
Is that normal for around here?
Hwy. 36 flooded at the Fire Station between the Post Office and -closer to Martin & Shirley’s old stop. A semi was wading thru towards me, the driver rolled down his window and told me to turn around. Trucks maybe can get thru. Not cars.
I’m in between the store and post office in Dinsmore, and the flooding isn’t too bad. Nothing is “officially closed” in Dinsmore I drove around no problem. Small compacts may have issues, but I coasted through in a Tacoma not paying attention going 40mph
36 near Dinsmore Airport has been open for a while now.
Updated 3:35 and fixed that. Sorry.
My car was is to low to drive through, but trucks are all right.
