Body of Man Found Dead Near Mouth of Smith River Yesterday
Yesterday morning, a body of what is believed to be a Native American male was found on a beach near the mouth of the Smith River, according to a post on the Tolowas of the Smith River Rancheria’s Facebook page. “He was native with shoulder length dark hair,” the post states.
Commander Bill Stephens of the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office spoke to us on his day off. He said there is an ongoing investigation and not much is known yet. “[The deceased] is an adult male,” Stephens said. “We haven’t determined natural death versus foul play at this time. We’ve got a criminal investigation going with all that entails until we learn more.”

Commander Bill says they haven’t determined if it was natural death or foul play. He didn’t speculate maybe accidental death or drowning or something?? Hmmm.
