To the Editor,
As a resident of McKinleyville, I strongly support Evan Schwartz for Fifth District Supervisor.
What sets Evan apart is his willingness to work with the community instead of making decisions behind closed doors. In a time when many residents feel unheard, Evan consistently shows up, listens respectfully, and values public input. He understands that good leadership starts with transparency, accountability, and collaboration.
Evan brings a humble, grounded approach to local government that reflects the values of the Fifth District. He is approachable, thoughtful, and focused on practical solutions rather than political grandstanding. Whether the issue is responsible growth, infrastructure, public safety, environmental stewardship, or protecting the character of our rural communities, Evan takes the time to hear different perspectives and work toward balanced decisions that benefit the community as a whole.
Our district needs leadership that is connected to the people it serves. Evan Schwartz has demonstrated that he is willing to engage directly with residents, communicate openly, and represent the community with integrity and respect.
I encourage voters throughout the Fifth District to support Evan Schwartz for Supervisor.
Sincerely,
Sara Smith
McKinleyville, CA

What we want from a county sup is a business sense. A strong economic understanding. Local industry and agricultural, will build a community base that can thrive, without outside government interference. What we don’t need is social justice TAX writers, and grant appliers. Or environmental panicking.
At the McKinleyville incorporation meeting, Evan raised thoughtful points about the expense and complexity of the process amid a general atmosphere of boosterism.
I can’t get past my memory of this guy getting all bent out of shape when Eureka Natural Foods was opening in McKinleyville and he wanted them to buy him out of his small natural foods store there and they told him no… somehow now he’s painted as the voice of good business sense? I think not.
Thanks, Sara.
I wonder if he’s served in public office before? Wasn’t he on the McKinleyville Community Services board? That would be good to show.
I have only been exposed to him on the video of the town meeting covered by Redheaded Blackbelt. But that was enough to show his openness and ability to communicate, skills needed for this role.
By contrast, his opponent seems to be reserved and intellectual and not highly communicative or relatable.
I voted for him already and I hope he is our new supervisor.
