Vegetation Fire feature iconA vegetation fire was reported Wednesday afternoon in the area of Conklin Creek Road near Petrolia, according to scanner traffic.

The fire was dispatched around 3:45 p.m. as a tree fire in the area of the 2000 block of Conklin Creek Road, near the confluence of the Mattole River and Conklin Creek. Local fire agencies responded and established command at the scene.

Petrolia Fire reported the fire at approximately one acre with a slow rate of spread and light winds. Crews reported no visible smoke column. CAL FIRE has been requested and a hand crew is being rerouted to the incident.

The fire broke out on an unusually warm late-winter afternoon amid a statewide heat wave, with the National Weather Service warning that numerous daily and monthly temperature records are expected to fall across California this week.

Update 4:38 p.m.: The Eel River hand-crew has been cancelled.

I don’t think any heat we may have inland can start a fire, but sunlight through a broken piece of clear glass can act as a magnifier causing grass to catch fire. We also have fire bugs that enjoy setting these fires and putting the first responders lives in danger.

I have a shitbag neighbor who burns when any non-idiot knows it’s not safe. Maybe a similar dumbass started this fire.

It’s a good time to be burning piles. I think you just want to stick around and make it look like you got a handle on it!

Your comment is confusing. When the grass is dry it is not a good time to be burning piles. Are your calling me a firebug that likes to stick around and watch. If you are I will consider that you sir are a big a**hole!
