[UPDATE 11:15 p.m.] Late-Night Trailer Fire Breaks Out Near Covelo Airport Road
Firefighters and law enforcement responded around 10:10 p.m. Sunday to a reported structure fire at 23000 block of Airport Road in the Covelo area.
According to scanner traffic, the fire involved an unoccupied trailer, with multiple motorhome trailers reported nearby. Due to the potential for the fire to spread, responders requested a Zone 1 mutual aid response for additional firefighting resources. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office was also dispatched to the scene.
Early reports indicated the fire was burning near the same general area where a fire had occurred earlier in the evening.
At 10:26 p.m., the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office issued a Nixle advisory describing the incident as a structure fire in the Covelo area near 23532 Airport Road. The alert stated that no further action was required by the public at that time, but advised residents to use caution and avoid the area.
Authorities said updates will be posted to mendoready.org as more information becomes available.
UPDATE 10:35 p.m.: The main fire has been knocked down. The lead water tender was asked to continue to the fire but all others were released.
UPDATE 11:15 p.m.: The Incident Commander reported to dispatch that the fire had been extinguished and flames did not spread to the surrounding vegetation.
