Press release from Michael Davies-Hughes for Superintendent Campaign:

Michael Davies-Hughes announced today that he will seek re-election as Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools in the June 2, 2026 Primary Election, reaffirming his commitment to the students, families, and educators who make up Humboldt County’s public schools.

“For me, this work has always been personal,” Davies-Hughes said. “Our schools are where students find their confidence, where families find support, and where communities come together. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I’m excited about what we can still do.”

Since taking office in 2021, Davies-Hughes has provided steady, practical leadership with a focus on strengthening partnerships with local districts and charters, improving services at the Humboldt County Office of Education (HCOE), and helping to make sure schools have the resources they need to prepare students for their preferred future.  Under his leadership, HCOE has expanded early learning and special education supports, increased career technical education opportunities, strengthened mental health services, and secured additional state and federal funding for local schools.

He has also emphasized collaboration; working closely with districts and charters, tribal communities, educators, and families to ensure decisions reflect the needs of Humboldt County’s diverse communities.

“We’ve made real progress,” he said. “But the work isn’t finished. Our students still need us to show up every day to remove barriers, open doors, and make sure every child has a path to success.”

Looking ahead, Davies-Hughes plans to continue expanding early childhood education, improving attendance and academic achievement, growing workforce and career pathways, recruiting and retaining strong educators, and maintaining careful fiscal stewardship on behalf of local schools.

To mark the start of the campaign, Davies-Hughes will host a community kick-off social:

Campaign Kick-Off Social
Thursday, February 19, 2026
5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Eureka Woman’s Club
1531 J Street, Eureka, CA 95501

Members of the public are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served.

“I hope folks will stop by, say hello, and share what’s on their minds,” Davies-Hughes added. “Public education works best when we listen to each other. This campaign is about continuing that conversation.”

Because they will siphon money from public schools to private businesses,
thereby benefitting the wealthy at the expense of poor and working-class families.

You mean so we can help pay for your Christian school?
Plenty of charter schools around if you are looking for alternative education.
