Lengthy Highway 36 Pursuit Ends With Arrest After Suspect Rammed a Patrol Vehicle

A multi-agency law enforcement pursuit that began with a reported disturbance near Carlotta yesterday on Thursday, December 11, ended hours later with the arrest of Clayton Miller following a dangerous chase along Highway 36.

Late Thursday evening, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jesse Taylor confirmed Miller’s arrest.

“I can confirm we do have Clayton Miller in custody after a lengthy effort to apprehend him,” Lt. Taylor said. “HCSO is tired of chasing dangerous and violent criminals who should otherwise be locked up and in prison. This is a perfect example of the frustrations we face when our justice system lets us down and continues to release dangerous and violent offenders. Luckily, we have Miller in custody on various charges thanks to the efforts of our Sheriff’s Deputies.”

Taylor said that Miller “[r]ammed one HCSO patrol car and created all kinds of havoc. No deputies were injured and we are fortunate his dangerous behavior didn’t result in harm to passing motorists.”

According to scanner traffic and law enforcement officials, deputies initially responded to a reported 415 disturbance in the Carlotta area earlier in the day.

Deputies soon reported a suspect vehicle traveling westbound on State Route 36 from the slide area. Attempts to deploy spike strips were unsuccessful.

Scanner traffic later indicated deputies located the suspect vehicle near mile marker 10 leading to a renewed pursuit eastbound on Highway 36 at reported speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.

Scanner traffic indicated the suspect vehicle performed “donuts,” rammed a gate, and continued eastbound on Highway 36.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., scanner traffic reported the suspect—driving a 2017 white Cadillac utility vehicle—attempted to drive off a cliff near mile marker 12.5. Deputies used a patrol vehicle to prevent the Cadillac from going over the embankment. The suspect then rammed a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle, prompting deputies to deploy pepper spray and a Taser before taking the Miller into custody.

Medical personnel and a tow truck were requested to respond to the scene, with medical later upgraded to a code 3 response, indicating an urgent medical need.

Lt. Taylor said Miller was arrested on multiple charges related to the incident. Additional details regarding the charges and Miller’s medical condition were not immediately available.

Terrible behavior and I’m glad he’s in prison.
On another subject, with R.F.Kennedy at the top of our medical pyramid, I can see the HHS pushing phrenology. Take this mugshot.
Phrenology is a pseudoscience and involves measurement of bumps on the skull to predict mental traits.

He is not in ”prison”. He is detained. Where he will be charged and and be arraigned. Then he will get a no bail release. Thanks to the progressive voters of California for this leniency of prosecution of criminal.

No deflection. I’m just calling balls and strikes as I see them.

The difference between me and someone with TDS is that I actually evaluate policies and actions on their merits. I can say I agreed with a few things from the previous president (very few, in this case) and disagreed with many others. I’m not blinded by personal hatred of the individual. If anything, I’ve often felt sympathy for him as a person, while still being clear-eyed and critical about his record and that record shows more lying than telling the truth. At least with the current President (who I don’t always agree with) you get what you get at face value, if he says he’s going to do something he does it, whether I agree with it or not… [edit]

I agree he’s pretty confident! But he’s already stopped 2 wars at least, so he’s got a good chance at stopping a war the previous administration allowed to happen. And my groceries are cheaper, my inflation is down and even in CA my gas is cheaper so….

I know prices are going up, I’m asking where you’re getting lower grocery prices? You made the claim, I’m just asking you where this grocery store is. You usually call it pretty straight so I’m curious. I’m sure many of us want to know bc the grocery bill is killing me.

I’m frugal so I shop at Grocery outlet and Winco. I’ll concede most grocery prices are still high but my staples like milk and eggs and most meat has dropped.

Both great options. Thanks for sharing. The eggs are definitely cheaper but my overall grocery bill at both places is higher. Meat continues to provide sticker shock for us. Luckily a family member gifted us half of a home-grown beef, the most delicious beef we’ve ever had, and that is saying something given that my husband was a butcher for 20 odd years. It has helped significantly yet groceries remain a huge expense.

Lisa, for what it’s worth, Costco has some decent coffee prices; they’re higher than they were 2-3 years ago, but lower than other stores. They have the old standards like Folgers and others, some locals like Humboldt Bay Organic and, I think, Muddy Waters, as well as some popular brands like San Fransisco and Pete’s.

For me it’s like gas, I need it, I buy it, and try not to look at the price.

Costco is where my coffee has doubled, but still cheaper than other places. Thanks for the tips.

Lisa, you have to get coffee at Winco. They have bags from Humboldt Bay Coffee Co. for 10.49. Now granted, they’re only 12-oz bags, but that is still a deal for the BEST coffee around. ( = 13.99/lb.)They have bigger bags for an even better deal, but i get the smaller ones because it stays fresh longer. Comes in ground or whole bean, and in at least 3 different styles. I go for the French Double Dark!
Winco is great. I see lots of people who wouldn’t be caught dead in there a few years back scarfing up the deals nowadays.

I’ve always got my Humboldt Bay coffee from winco and it’s gone up a dollar or 2 think over the last few years, 10-12 a bag. Great coffee and local business highly recommend

Costco still has the best coffee prices for me, but Idk if that extends to Humboldt Bay Coffee. I shop at Winco monthly. It has been great, but I am not seeing any prices dropping there. They’re definitely cheaper than many other retailers but not cheaper than 5 years ago, or a year ago for that matter. I do find great deals occasionally and it beats most places, but my Winco run bill is higher today than ever before.

Joe Biden routinely struggles to finish thoughts, recall basic details, and speak without assistance or correction. It’s embarrassing.

Trump may be abrasive and undisciplined, but he demonstrates awareness of policy, engages unscripted with the media, for long periods, and shows cognitive stamina Biden simply did not.You can dislike Trump’s behavior and still acknowledge that Biden’s cognitive decline is more pronounced and more concerning for someone in office.

Are you referring to Biden in the present (Biden routinely struggles to finish thoughts), the past (cognitive stamina Biden simply did not), or the present (Biden’s cognitive decline is more pronounced)? While Biden’s mental faculties were concerning to me while he was in office, with the exception of him being another human being, it’s irrelevant and I couldn’t care less what he’s going through now.

I think it is really interesting how 1) you are so quick to assume he will be released on a bail, or at least, given a bail he could actually afford, and 2) how quick you are to say that it is “leniency” to create laws that do things like create a presumption of innocence or the right to reasonable bail. For your sake, I hope that neither you nor anyone you love finds themselves in a situation where they are arrested, falsely or not, as then you will see the true worth of these rights. Then again, perhaps that’s what is needed. Most of us take for granted the things that are most important to us until it’s too late.

Please forgive this old guy, but I just want to be sure people know it’s RFK JUNIOR you refer to, not his father. RFK senior had his issues, like his brothers, but wild-ass, Irish-American, Catholic is not the worst way to go. If you want a philandering president, that’s the way to go if you want a human being, not the caricature now re-modeling the White House and the USA . Well, OK, off-topic.

Will the DA prosecute? Likely not effectively. Will a judge leave him in jail? Likely Will let him out OR. If convicted will he get a maximum sentence? Likely minimum or out on probation.

LT Taylor, I share your frustration. Violent criminals need to be removed from society permanently.

The far left progressives, along with psychologist nut jobs have made it near impossible for this to happen. They have infiltrated law enforcement, DA offices, judges and most importantly the people who elect such rubbish to “serve” in the injustice system. When “leaders” like the current governor and attorney general take office, there’s absolutely no hope for a safe society.

Why is everyone so quick to assume that people are beyond redemption? Did he make a poor choice? It would appear so, from the limited facts shared with us. Why did he make that choice? Sadly, I have no idea, but what I do know is that no man, woman, or child is beyond redemption. Does this individual need to be incarcerated for his crimes? If it went down the way it was reported, it certainly sounds that way, but that does not mean he needs to be removed from society permanently. Perhaps we should stop spending so much money on building prisons and start investing in things that might help avoid situations such as this altogether. And while we’re at it, perhaps we should figure out why this person felt the need to react the way that he did. My guess? It was because of people like you, people who feel that any punishment dispensed is never harsh enough. Seriously. How many people suspected of committing a crime made things infinitely worse by running, which they did because they thought they were going to be given a punishment far harsher than anything they could have handled? Perhaps, if our justice system was more “just,” meaning that the punishments were fair, tailored towards the individual circumstances, which included factors like accepting responsibility, making amends, etc., then people would not only react as the person here did, but they’d be far more likely to work harder to make things right, to make amends, to accept responsibility, etc.

Sounds like the sheriff should run for a political office if he is so opinionated about state laws. Im sure he will quickly learn how unelectable he is. Perhaps relocate somewhere with strict prisons like russia comrade? Electors did recently up the ante for repeat offenders of I am not mistaken, however the sheriff using press releases to express opinion is unprofessional and reeks of worship of the orange underlord.

And folks were probably saying that he just needed another chance. He was from the area and knew that the slide was just a few miles east, yet he went for it anyways, just trying to save a few moments of incarceration which racked up more years in jail (hopefully). Well, he was probably going away a long time anyways. Good job LEO’s.

I suspect the pop ups are all infected malware 😂 Things on user end are rough. Not sure if it’s WordPress interface or bad code but ads routinely hijack the top portion of the page, constantly load over the page, sometimes partially obscuring the content, and they can’t be clicked or dismissed away because it’s likely implemented as a static header or has broken JavaScript.
