Mendocino County Launches Study to Identify Coastal Roads Most at Risk from Sea Level Rise
Press release from the Mendocino Council of Governments:
Mendocino Council of Governments (MCOG) is seeking community input as it conducts its Mendocino County Sea Level Rise Roadway Impact Study, which will evaluate how flooding and erosion due to sea level rise are affecting City- and County-managed roads.
We encourage you to complete an online survey to share your observations about which coastal roads are most affected by flooding, erosion, or storm related impacts. We kindly request your feedback by Monday, February 16, 2026. Your input will help the project team identify the five priority roadway segments for detailed analysis.
For more information, please review the attached fact sheet or visit the project website: www.mendocinoSLRstudy.org. We encourage you to forward this email to others you may know who would be interested in completing the survey.
If you have questions or are interested in scheduling a briefing for your organization, please email us at [email protected] or call UC Cooperative Extension Advisor Dr. Laura Garza at 707-463-4496.MCOG_FS_Final_ENG-compressed

there would be more public funds for essential programs if government and ngo green/greenbackers,would stop wasting it on this nonsense.
Hey……you government progressive people in mendo, the whole county is on a bluff at the ocean. With the exception of ten mile dunes. Its not going to be affected by fake climate change. It will be affected by erosion. That’s it. Just good ol fashion erosion.
Um…isn’t this what FEMA and tsunami zone maps are for? It would seem that the identified zones would have already been mapped out. I get that CalTrans probably uses the data to prioritize future problematic areas, but couldn’t they just consult the USGS for the data and save a lot of time and money rehashing maps?
Why? They will probably fix it then give it away, like blues beach.
What’s up w Blues Beach? I’m out of the loop…too long in Humboldt. I love that beach- and so does my dog!!
There’s really no need to take a survey. Anyone can go to NOAA’s own website and see the projected sea level rise. The closest one is Arena Cove which states: The relative sea level trend is 1.11 mm/year with a 95% confidence interval of +/- 0.8 mm/year based on monthly mean sea level data from 1978 to 2024 which is equivalent to a change of 0.36 feet in 100 years.
Just click on any one of the arrows to see their data

Oops, don’t point that out. It gives the frauds more reason to ignore the SCIENCE, and FACTS, instead suggesting President Trump made it up……..
Sea level rise roadway impact study? What an absolute joke and waste of money. Every year, there’s going to be storm damage and minor flooding from the Pacific storms that come through every year, causing natural erosion as it has for centuries. The Hwy 1 coastline in Mendocino County is susceptible to slides from the melange of rock, which is more prone to slides. The last thing they need is a bunch of environmental bureaucrats looking for ways to pilfer more money from the people with another fake climate change scam.
This study is being funded by a grant. Grant writers are always looking for some way to latch onto the public tit. It must have been very exciting for them to figure out that they could make up a B.S. study and build a new agency… their very own new empire.
Everybody knows that “climate Change” is going to kill us all unless we study it to death. What better ‘cause’ to get funding.
The grant does not cover Private Roads nor State Highways. Go figure! It is going to be very difficult to find a road that does qualify. Maybe they could write a new grant to find a qualifying road… New Empire!
I just read that Humboldt County has the second least valuable houses in the Nation. Probably because the people that can still afford to get out of here are leaving.
