Human Remains Located West of Redway; Investigation Underway

Death Investigation featureThe Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed to us that human remains were located earlier today in the Huckleberry Lane area of the Whitethorn/Briceland region west of Redway.

Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jesse Taylor told Redheaded Blackbelt via text message at 12:56 p.m., “I can confirm deputies have located human remains. Detectives with our Major Crimes Division and our Coroner’s Office are on scene investigating.”

When asked whether a large animal had disturbed the body, Taylor responded, “Evidence on scene appears to be consistent with an animal activity scattering the body.”

Taylor told us that he didn’t want to speculate on when the person had died but he said, “Based on pictures I’ve seen, it seems more recent, but I can’t confirm that.”

When asked if having the Major Crimes Division there indicated that law enforcement believes this was a homicide, Taylor told us, “Our detectives usually respond to these types of investigations as a precaution. At this point, we don’t have any information to believe this is a criminal matter, but we are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation.”

Taylor told us, “I would anticipate us releasing additional information later this evening or tomorrow morning.” We will update as more information becomes available.

Joe, I have wondered the same thing, but I guess we won’t ever know as a few will never be found. A sad part of life we have to live with.

I pray that the human remains will be identified and that person can finally RIP. Condolences to their family and friends.

Lidar would be key to finding the missing. I just Google lidar drones. They run 50 to 20,000. But theoretically if you searched the side of the roads with a lidar equipped drone you would find missing people. You don’t carry a dead body to far from the road. I was kind of curious if the mmip had that type of technology in use.it could sure be handy.

Though the body was unidentifiable, all the evidence is pointing towards this being my father. No foul play involved he probably fell off the roof cleaning the chimney and was eaten by a bear.. which is something he probably would have got a kick out of, RIP Kenneth. Please give Mom a hug for me when you see her up there.

Sorry to hear. Still it wouldn’t be a bad idea to fund the mmia. They are the only group to actively search. Law enforcement is a bit of a triage situation. They answer calls and don’t have the man power or time for active searches. A county that has as many people going missing as humboldt really should have a lidar equipped drone.

Not a bad way for a Humboldt guy to go, if you consider the other options.

If you’re correct then that’s a helluva way to get the news.RIP Kenneth. Hard as concrete, tough as nails. They don’t make them like they used to.

Ken didn’t believe in beating around the bush, and I don’t have contact info for a lot of his friends. I figured a lot of people he new would probably see this story. And there’s no point in waiting weeks for the investigation to be concluded. He got to spend his last weekend with his grandson, going to the cove wich they both loved to do.

Remember years ago a bear got into a house where a man had died in his bed from a heart attack? Could this be similar case? Maybe it’s not foul play at all! How many bears are out there? RIP , very sad 😢

When Rainbow Mountain Walker’s remains were found it wasn’t clear as to whether the bear killed him or scavenged his remains.

Autopsy showed he died from a heart attack before the bear scavenged his remains. It made national news.

My wish after I pass away, is to be tossed in the woods and “live on” via the mountain lion and critters that eat my remains. Sounds far better than cremation or burial. Those creep me out.

So sad that this man, who lived in this beautiful place of trees, had his life ending by his body and bones being scattered. Rest in Peace Mountain Man.

I like thc”s take on it. I’m sure I will find my dad in a similar situation soon. There’s 3 walkers available, but he insists on using a cane . It’s painful to watch. He spins around. And lurches side to side. I tell him to use the walker and he says ‘he doesn’t want to get dependent on it. ?? Me and my sister agree that we are going to have him stuffed, in a pose like a bear . We just need the right taxidermist. 😊

Just got to remember that life is not worth living for some, if they can’t live it themselves. My dad got to live his right up until the end 🍻

100%. Very few mountain people could stand their last years in a home or being treated like a child. Condolences, though. Losing a parent is one of the worst moments we experience.

Why is that sad? Its a very natural thing and many of us who live in the woods love the natural environment&wiuld be glad to be a part of the food chain as we discard our meat suits.

The only thing that’s sad is that I won’t get to spend any more late nights drinking with him, listening to War Stories and Adventures he had throughout his life. Or the fact he’ll never be able to spend a weekend with his grandkids again. If it was up to him he Im sure he would have just as soon been left in the woods.

“Scooter Trash”? That Kenny? Oh I am so sorry. Kathy and I were close and I went to their place often. It is something that would amuse them both. They are probably cracking up about it. -Carol H.

He was my little brother even though he was twice as big as me. His heart was twice as big as him and he loved his family and friends with all of it. I am so thankful to know how much he was loved
