Limited Online Access for City of Arcata’s October 1 Council Meeting

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

Due to technical issues, the Arcata City Council meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 1 will not be broadcast on Zoom and those wishing to provide comment on the meeting should plan to attend in person

The City of Arcata seeks to make public meetings as accessible to the public as possible. In this effort, Arcata City Council and Planning Commission meetings can typically be watched through the City’s YouTube channel, Access Humboldt and Zoom. Unlike YouTube and Access Humboldt, watching through Zoom allows attendees to provide comment on the meeting.

The City began experiencing technical issues with the equipment that makes broadcasting live meetings on Zoom possible in mid-September and is still working to resolve these issues. Unfortunately, participation in the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Oct 1 will not be possible through Zoom. Thus, community members wishing to provide comment on agenda items or during public comment should plan to attend in person.

The City appreciates the public’s patience as it works to resolve these issues and resume normal broadcasting of council meetings. Those who would like to watch the meeting, but do not intend to provide comment can still do so through YouTube or Access Humboldt. The special meeting, which is primarily for closed session items but has public comment at the start, begins at 5 p.m. and the regular meeting begins at 6 p.m.

Equipment issues? Who does your IT? Does no one else there know how to operate conference equipment beyond a cell phone and YouTube (which Zoom also works on just fine)? Take some $$ from petty cash, head down to Staples or one of the local shops, Amazon, whatever, and fix the issue. That can be bought, set up and tested by the end of the day. Here’s a starter kit. Or are people there just not in too big a hurry to fix an issue that every high school kid had to overcome during the pandemic?

Laughing at the tech ignorance. Go grab a Webcam from staples is a knee slapper.
