[UPDATE 3:24 p.m.: One Way Traffic] Two Small Wildfires Reported Near Klamath Glen on Yurok Reservation

Two vegetation fires were reported early Monday afternoon near Klamath Glen, burning off Highway 169 around mile marker 2 on the Yurok Reservation in southern Del Norte County.

According to initial dispatch reports, the first fire, now being referred to as the Klamath Fire, was reported around 12:46 p.m. today, August 4. A second, smaller fire—dubbed the Klamath 2 Fire—was located nearby. Watch Duty, citing the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), reports the main fire is approximately one acre in size, while the second is estimated at half an acre.

CAL FIRE’s Air Attack 120 responded and is currently overhead, coordinating initial suppression efforts. Ground crews have been dispatched, and resources at the scene have indicated they are able to manage the scope of the fire.

The fires are situated east of Klamath Glen near Highway 169, an area managed by the Yurok Tribe and known for steep canyons and dense fuels.

UPDATE 3:24 p.m.: According to Caltrans District 1, “🔴 TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 169 is FULLY CLOSED in Del Norte County in the Klamath and Klamath Glen area (PM 2) due to a fire. Currently, there is no estimated time of reopening.”

UPDATE: According to Caltrans, Now open with one-way traffic. Expect delays.

Is there going to any stopping these damn fires that keep popping up. Glad the firefighters got a handle on both. Route 169 is still closed. I hope it will open soon for folks using it.
