CDPH Urges Families to Stay Up to Date on Vaccines as School Year Approaches

During National Immunization Awareness Month in August, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is highlighting the importance of routine vaccines as students return to school. Vaccination prevents the spread of serious illnesses, reduces hospitalizations, saves lives, and helps keep kids in school and doing the activities they love.
While California’s immunization rates for kindergarten students remain higher than the national average, CDPH wants to keep rates high and continue to protect California children and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases. CDPH recommends families stay up to date on all vaccinations for the new school year.
“When our youngest Californians are healthy and able to participate in learning and doing the things they love, the future of California is brighter,” said Dr. Erica Pan, CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer. “As a parent and a pediatrician, I am grateful for and confident in the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, which have transformed the leading causes of childhood deaths away from infectious diseases. CDPH remains committed to ensuring all California families have access to safe and effective vaccines, and the information they need to understand that vaccine recommendations are based on credible, transparent, and science-based evidence.”
Due to large outbreaks in other states, the number of measles cases in the U.S. as of July 2025 are already higher than any year since 2000, when the World Health Organization declared the disease eliminated in the United States due to vaccination. Over 90% of this year’s cases were not vaccinated, and more than 1 in 10 of those infected with measles were hospitalized, some in intensive care units. Three people have died this year from this entirely preventable disease, reminding us of the importance of immunization.
California continues to report more than 95% coverage among kindergarteners for the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. While the state has maintained the level of vaccination necessary to prevent community spread for nearly a decade, it remains critical that our children and communities stay protected through continued vaccination.
Required Immunizations: California law requires students to receive age-specific immunizations to attend public and private schools and licensed childcare centers. Schools and licensed childcare centers are required to enforce immunization requirements, maintain immunization records of all children enrolled, and report children’s immunization status to CDPH.

Resources for Families: CDPH encourages families to seek reliable information to learn more about vaccines, including visiting the CDPH Vaccine Facts webpage. Families can also speak to their health care providers or contact their local health provider for help in finding a place to get immunized. Most health plans cover recommended vaccinations with no out-of-pocket costs. Children without insurance coverage qualify for the Vaccines for Children Program, which provides no-cost vaccines for eligible children.

You can put money on the reality that there’s tens of thousands more that were denied those judgments, parents to grief-stricken and unaware of the system to file after their child dies, or got too worn down by the system to continue their claim or even bother in the first place.

I agree 💯. My son was injured by vaccines. He has IEP and is allowed to go to school without being up to date on vaccines thankfully.
All I could find on IEP is that it means Individualized Education Plan. You make it sound like a medical condition. You say your boy was injured by vaccines. How so and how did a vaccine cause it?
In California, children with disabilities that require an IEP, they’re exempt from vaccine requirements. When the law passed where the philosophical and religious exemptions were removed it stated though children with IEPs must be allowed to continue their education and anything related to their IEP regardless of their vaccine status. And they cannot be denied a public education. Vaccines caused him encephalitis which is brain damage which is listed in an inserts in any vaccine. He now has global developmental delay and has a permanent, which he was diagnosed at three with, and a permanent learning disability.
I am disgusted that anyone would down vote a mother’s account of her child’s direct experience! Please think that through people. Don’t cancel injured people. I highly recommend the recent Senate hearing on vaccine injuries.

Vaccines could not and did not eliminate tetanus, which lives in the ground/manure in anaerobic conditions.
Vaccines emphatically did not stop COVID.

OH, And let’s not forget that patients who have received just a single dose of (the reportedly effective) MMR are considered unvaccinated, which the conveniently takes shade that belongs on the vaccinations and transfers it to that tiny percentage who are exempted .

So stop selling it. For one thing it is not “manageable ” at all. With good nursing, which can take a year out of mother’s life if she has more than one child, most get through the course of the disease without dying. Usually there is some residual damage. My sister, unlike me had an uncomplicated recovery only to discover years later it had caused some hearing loss. About 60% of children with hearing loss had those vaccine preventable diseasee.
But measles has several other nasty side effects and long term damage is not uncommon. One side effect is that it wipes out previous built up natural immunities so a child can recover from measles then go on to develop a kidney infection, pneumonia or encephalitis from bacteria or viruses they had previously overcome. And that is exactly what happened to me. I had measles then one illness after another. It was a full year before I was well again and a decade before I stopped having recurring minor illnesses.
The child may not die of measles in those cases but may die of another illness shortly after.
Um, source? Because common sense and scientific sources readily available describe risk /duration stats and alleged impacts to immunity are vastly different then the horror show you have described.

I didn’t know anyone that died from covid. I did hear about people dying from unnecessarily being put on ventilators in the ventilators killed them. It almost happened to a friend of mine but thankfully his brothers started to sue St Joseph hospital and took him off the ventilator and he lived but they had also given him an experimental medicine for covid and he didn’t even have covid never was tested for him and it and it made him be put on dialysis for months. I’ve also been hearing about perfectly healthy individuals all of a sudden having heart problems and dying out of nowhere from heart attack or blood clot. Perfectly healthy 20 something year olds but never had any pre-existing health issues whatsoever. Heart issues don’t just appear overnight. Also I want to mention all the homeless population if it was so dangerous and contagious why didn’t it wipe out all the homeless first?

Look at this graph which shows deaths from vaccine preventable illnesses before and after mass vaccination. Once you see how and when the majority of deaths drop off, ask yourself why we’re told that vaccines are the cause.
