Three U.S. Forest Service firefighters were injured this Thursday afternoon when a tree fell on them while they were working the Butler Fire, part of the Orleans Complex in the Six Rivers National Forest.

The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m., according to Betsy Totten, Public Affairs Staff Officer for Six Rivers National Forest. All three firefighters were transported to Redding for medical care. “One is seriously injured; two have less serious injuries,” Totten confirmed in an interview.

At least one of the injured firefighters was airlifted from the scene, one by medevac helicopter. Totten said the injured personnel were extracted using “a combination of ambulances and helicopters.”

As of Thursday, officials had not released the names of the firefighters or the forest units they are assigned to.

The Butler Fire continues to burn aggressively. As of the most recent update, it had grown to overy 11,000 acres with only 2% containment. The fire has posed significant challenges to firefighting crews, including a 700-acre spot fire that developed the night before the tree strike incident.

It’s always hard to hear about firefighters being injured on the job…prayers going out that these three recover as well as they can and that no more injuries happen if at all possible…

People say they are not enough HEROES in the world today.

You want to see real heroes??? These firefighters do stuff HOURLY that most of us wouldn’t have the guts to do ever!

You don’t have to look far in California for heroes!

These firefighters are REAL HEROES!

We desperately need them and they certainly deserve our respect and support!

Donate to your local firefighter company to and help us to financially support our REAL HEROES!!!

Firefighters are as fit as professional athletes and do extremely dangerous work. Being hit by a falling tree is not uncommon for these heroes. Thank you for your exemplary service.

Praying those injured firefighters will make a complete recovery. Firefighting is a hot and dangerous job, and I surely hope that no more firefighters will be in harm’s way.
