Firefighters have made substantial progress on the Reading Fire burning in Trinity County, with containment now at 55%, according to the latest update from CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit. All evacuation warnings have been lifted, and crews will continue to strengthen control lines and conduct mop-up operations throughout the day.

With containment steadily increasing, CAL FIRE officials expressed cautious optimism while acknowledging the challenges posed by today’s weather forecast.

“Crews are making steady progress in strengthening control lines and conducting mop-up operations on the Reading Fire,” CAL FIRE reported this morning. “Weather forecasts indicate a possibility of lightning over the area this evening.” Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, sign up for local alerts at readytrinity.org, and always be prepared to evacuate if conditions change rapidly.

Although forward spread has been stopped, the risk of rekindling due to lightning remains a concern. Firefighters are expected to continue their efforts until full containment is achieved. firefighter among burned lands

They should let it burn this time of year… the ground is still wet and temperatures are reasonable. Suppression is such a tired method!

Not when it’s right across the road from a heavily populated area. This fire threatened a heavy concentration of Douglas city’s population. If we didn’t get it stopped when we did, many would have lost their homes. I agree fire is nessacary but it is very dry in many areas and when it comes to people’s lives, we don’t “let it burn”

Just let it burn no I don’t think so. As a fire grows bigger it can create its own weather and there is ample dry grass, brush and trees just waiting to go up in flames. Suppression is not a tired method.

You clearly don’t live around here. Save your academic ideas we don’t need to hear that.
we need to be better at putting out fires quickly, and efficiently to save our forests, people and animals respiratory systems and keep the cost down.
