This season also features official poster artwork by local illustrator Josh Overington, whose watercolor designs beautifully capture the spirit of the market and the wild energy of Humboldt County. “Supporting events like Friday Night Market—and local artists—is crucial to maintaining our community and diversity,” he says. “It allows anyone with a dream to pursue their artistic passion without having to start from scratch,”  says Overington.

“As someone rooted in Humboldt’s creative community, it’s a real privilege to help bring this event to life. You can feel the energy shift on Friday nights—artists setting up, music in the air, friends gathering. It’s a celebration that belongs to all of us,” said Charlene Cook, Event Coordinator for the Friday Night Market.

“This event is about more than just shopping or entertainment,” said Rosa Dixon, Executive Director of Humboldt Made. “It’s about showing up for one another and investing in the community we all love. Friday Night Market represents the heart of Humboldt—creative, welcoming, and deeply rooted in local pride.”

Whether you’re there to shop, dine, dance, or simply connect, the Eureka Friday Night Market offers a one-of-a-kind Humboldt experience—every Friday night.

Yep. Just as I expected. Some of the same ol’ bands that have played the year or years before.

The organizers tell some bands that they are too loud or not the right fit, but then they throw a band like The Riving in the mix. Don’t get me wrong, I love this band and have seen them a few times, will see them again and am looking forward to hearing them at an outside venue, but, they . . . are . . . loud. Let me say that again . . . LOUD!!! If you like technical , busy music, definitely check them out. You can’t hear or see it all in one performance. But bring earplugs. They already run their amps at 11, but, I mean heck, it’s outside, why not turn it up, right?

Huckleberry Flint. Automatic in. A band member Co-owns Dick-Taylor Chocolate. Isn’t that a partial reason they took out street parking and built that concrete parklet? So they can busk outside? I’m speculating. Don’t quote me. They may not play the Friday Night Market (FNM) every year, but they are regulars at it. Perhaps the organizers were bribed with chocolate. It would sway me.

Jackie and the Jollys. Anyone who’s seen and enjoyed them at the FNM in the past will get to do so yet again. As well as Vanishing Pints and A Banjo Makes 3. Heck, A Banjo Makes 3 was there last year. We sat and listened to them at the Romano Gabriel Stage. And kudos to them, they advanced a notch to the Clark Plaza Stage.

And how about Humboldt Taiko and Black Humboldt? Both of these groups get TWO slots to perform this summer. I know for a fact other groups have been turned down.

All of these groups are good and are worth seeing. That’s not the point. Give other bands a chance. Some of these other bands have been waiting in the wings since the first year of FNM. These other bands are just as good as those playing consecutive years. That’s not just my opinion, but the hordes of people that go to see these other bands, including the FNM organizers whom I’ve seen at shows, can attest to that. I don’t know, maybe the organizers weren’t shmoozed enough during the off season. What, did we not give you a shout out when we saw you dancing at one of our shows? Did we not buy you a second drink? Did we not tag you on facebook or instagram? Some musicians are going to die before they get to play this gig. Some recently have. Just more proof it’s not what you know, but whose d . . . um, sorry, this is a family site, . . . but who you know.
