The Humboldt County Fair Association (HCFA) is pleased to announce the official dates for the highly anticipated 2025 Humboldt County Fair. This year’s fair will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 16th and 17th, and continue from Wednesday through Sunday, August 20th-24th. Mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable experience celebrating our community’s rich heritage, local agriculture, and family-friendly entertainment.
The theme for the 2025 Humboldt County Fair is: “Your County Fair with a Redwood Flair… Come Celebrate Your Hometown Roots!” Our team is dedicated to delivering an event that supports local businesses, showcases Humboldt County’s agricultural roots, and provides exciting entertainment for residents and visitors alike.
The Humboldt County Fair has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1861, making it one of the oldest fairs in California. Since finding its permanent home in Ferndale in 1896, the fair has grown into a beloved tradition that unites generations of families in celebration of local culture, agriculture, and entertainment. A key aspect of this legacy has been horse racing, with races held at the fairgrounds for over a century, drawing attendees from across the region.
HCFA is currently evaluating the feasibility of hosting a horse racing meet in 2025. This decision involves a thorough assessment of financial sustainability, regulatory requirements, and community support. The HCFA Board is working closely with industry experts, local leaders, and stakeholders to determine whether a race meet aligns with the fair’s long-term viability and financial health.
“Our priority is ensuring the success and sustainability of the Humboldt County Fair for years to come,” said Moira Kenny, Chief Executive Officer of the Humboldt County Fair Association. “We are committed to making responsible decisions that support our community while preserving the traditions that make our fair so special.”
We encourage all interested parties to participate in upcoming meetings, share their perspectives, and collaborate with us to shape the future of the Humboldt County Fair. Together, we can ensure this cherished event remains a vibrant part of our region.

What’s the over/under on horses that will be killed this year?
In all honesty, and absurdity, you can probably place that bet in Vegas.
zero – due to racing. How many will be sold to slaughter due to their owners not having funds to keep them due to no racing? Unknown.
