Huffman, Dexter Demand Hearing on Trump’s Illegal Firing of Inspectors General
Press release from the Office of Congressman Huffman:
Today, U.S. House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Ranking Member Maxine Dexter (D-Oreg.) sent a letter to Committee Chair Bruce Westerman requesting a hearing to get to the bottom of Trump’s unprecedented and illegal late-night firing of inspectors general from various federal agencies, a move that was outlined in Trump’s Project 2025.
“Protecting the independence of the inspectors general has been a bipartisan priority since Congress created the positions. It is hard to imagine a more important time for the Natural Resources Committee to explore the impacts of the erosion of the inspectors general under the watchful eye of the American people in a hearing. I hope I can count on you to hold a hearing in the full committee exploring the implications of the firings for issues within our jurisdiction,” the members wrote.
The lawmakers specifically requested the Committee examine the terminations at the Department of the Interior (DOI), the Department of Commerce (DoC), and the Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The members went on to highlight several instances where oversight from the DOI Office of Inspector General (OIG) was essential during the first Trump administration, including when they issued multiple reports about the Secretaries of the Interior and other appointees. In some cases, the Department of Interior OIG found that allegations against political appointees lacked merit, effectively shielding them against smears. In other cases, allegations were confirmed.
A full copy of the letter can be found here.
BACKGROUND
On Friday, January 24, 2025, President Trump fired at least 18 IGs in an email that lacked the justification or the 30-day notice to Congress required by law.
The 922-page Project 2025 policy agenda lists in-depth plans to weaken anti-corruption laws, replace qualified experts with political cronies, and eliminate efforts to defend environmental justice and diverse communities. In one of its corresponding “Presidential Administration Academy” video trainings, two Project 2025 leaders say that, upon election, the next U.S. president should replace the independent Inspectors General (IGs) working to oversee federal operations and detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct throughout 74 federal programs. The Project 2025 leaders said the next president should instead install “their own IGs” so that they “have control of the people that work within the government.”

I’m a gonna huff and puff and blow your house down…
He is so two faced.Came from the midwest and now owes his soul to Marin and Sonoma counties. Tries to schmooze the rest of us with handouts from the issuance of more government debt and then objects to inquiries into why a lot of the money cant be accounted for by these inspectors. Hes part of the swamp.
Trump’s master stroke during the 2016 campaign was to dismiss proof of his many factual misstatements and lies as “fake news” – a stance quickly embraced by his dim bulb true believers – and one which is daily on display here in the RHBB comment section.
Unfortunately, it looks like Huffman has taken it upon himself to be on point in exposing Trump’s illogical and sometimes illegal efforts to overthrow the Federal government from within – which means we’ll likely see a steady stream of press releases along similar lines as this one.
I say unfortunately because some of us would rather not be drawn into the pointless babble by the ignorant rabble – but here we are – now if only Kym would post these press releases to the booking page where the left and right wing drivel belongs.
Another Dick move by America’s Chief psychopath and first dictator.
as if anyone will notice these IG losers are gone
My sister was an auditor with the Inspector General office of both the army and EPA. Each time for about ten years. She worked WAY more than 40 hours a week. When she was with the army, she saved the US taxpayer so much money, she received a commendation from John Tower. Tell me again how they’re losers!
They can’t. These are people who refuse to accept facts.
Thanks for sharing your ACTUAL experience and knowledge! This is what resistance and counter programming looks ?
now tally up her salary plus benefits, training costs, etc for 20 years and i’m sure the number dwarfs whatever imaginary money she saved taxpayers
No training costs. She has an accounting degree. As for benefits, was she to pay on her own for the flights to Arizona, Washington, Alaska (economy)?. As well as for her lodging? These audits often went on for MONTHS.
And what do you imagine their replacements, political appointees personally loyal to 47, will do?
Something I came across, slightly related, is this link.

::facepalm:: The government is barely functional as it was, now we have recent high school graduates in charge of sensitive email servers. The best people.
I’m sure your sister was a devoted bean counter and sleuth, but that’s not an IG, which makes this an interesting situation.
Get her to tell you some stories about what was “rumored” to be going on under the table.
17 suspended or fired out of 74.
Some are appointed by the President and are confirmed by Senate. That sounds legit.
Some are appointed by agency heads. Not sure how that works.
IGs aren’t just bean counters. They hold a.lot.of sway in many circles.
For anyone to dismiss this as a Dick Move, at this stage of the game is really going out on a limb, because this is a very large can of worms.
We should be at the “Interested Stage”, not the “Outraged Stage” right now.
So… Huffman… how many tank divisions does he command ?
And:
Der Fuhrer has:

Just what we needed, a toxic narcissist Fuhrer in the white house…
IMHO: The USA has a wildly defective Constitution.
Oh my God. Like the democrats are over there upholding the rule of law. Why don’t you Democrats go back to sleep. You didn’t up hold anything under Biden. To late to try and look like your doing the job now. It’s way to obvious. Half assed state and half assed, and halfwitt County. Gov, police, hospital, from the top down.
A more civilized person would aim to not make things worse, but I digress.
When are we going to see the congressional hearings for all the illegal underhanded crap this pos has done?
Probably not.
This is just another Trumpian quick move toward an autocracy. The Inspector Generals are government non-partisan watchdogs. Of course Trump fired them to replace them with compliant lapdogs who will never challenge him. The FBI agents were fired for the audacity to investigate Trump’s actions in the Jan. 6 coup attempt. This is how you move to a dictatorship. This is Orban Renewal and Putin Power. Trump is an American tragedy.
Carry on, Representative Hoffman.
Of course, I meant Huffman. Damn spelchek.
