Why is it our volunteers do such a outstanding job . When the people in charge of other areas are paid to do their jobs and don’t. Once again our volunteers giving us their best.

You are an idiot if you think the volunteers do more than the people that get paid. It blows my mind that you think that way maybe you should take a long look at are volunteers, a lot of them are out of shape not trained enough to even be out on the fire line.

And yet… There they are! Out in the dark woods in the middle of the night working the front line of an expanding fire. Kicking their ass to do something. While you do… what? Criticize them? Lots of things and people to validly criticize in this world and volunteer firefighters might at the very end of the list…

I’m not sure what volunteer department you are referring to but you couldn’t be more wrong about Redway Fire. Before you take the time to post such pointless and insulting comments try to remember these firefighters are the ones who show up first to every incident day or night to help people such as yourself, and yes they are all volunteers. You are uniformed about their training practices, please keep your useless comments about our volunteer fire departments to yourself.

Please inform yourself about our local volunteer fire departments before posting uneducated comments. Yes they are volunteers however they train weekly at least and are the first ones to show up when people like you have an emergency. It’s usually people that do nothing for our community that are the first to complain about the ones volunteering.

Has anyone else watched the pratt mountain camera. I see explosions at regular intervals. Is this just a camera glitch? Some other explanation?

On the Calfire day time map, it shows a building or structure in the center of the fire and there is a structure with vehicle’s just outside the fire area to the east, maybe a 100 yards, with more structures just to the northwest and northeast and southeast of the fire area, which looks like cannabis grows.

The cams take photos at certain intervals and put them together. It isn’t a seamless video, just photos in quick succession.

Several more fire trucks passed us heading that way 15 minutes ago. We’re watching from the large pull-out along 101. Flames and red lighted smoke doesn’t seem as large as before. Maybe they’re getting a handle on it or it’s heading away from the ridge…? Looks like it’s smack dab between Miranda and Redway as the crow flies. Good luck to the firefighters – and thank you to all of them. Stay safe out there, guys!

Watching from the Dean
Creek watershed- doesn’t look quite as extensive as when we first spotted it around two hours ago, hard to tell in the dark.

just a thought and suggestion for “unimpressed”. It takes a village, one that cares.
Get CERT (citizens emergency response team), certified and join others to make a difference. It feels good …

My vote for firefighters goes to CalFire and all the volunteer fire departments that respond to these fires. Saying one group is paid more than the other is not the point. They all group and work together to reach their final goal, FIRE OUT! Big thank you every single one of you for working your butts off. I for one, am really glad for all of you. Please be safe!

Not so many inmate crews anymore. CalFire has staffed up paid crews to replace the inmates. The inmate crews were made up of nonviolent offenders, so generally have been released after the prison realignment prop 47?

The prison camp is adjacent to wood ranch. Non-violent offenders. Trained by Cal-fire. Do most of the fuel reduction around the public roads, and on private roads as well. Pretty sure they get around a fire or two once in a while.

Where on the Woods ranch is it? I know the area where Darryl C (no comment) lives and the general location where Garth E used to live (close to the Buttes). Can someone offer location landmark details?

Lord help us that no cannabis reefer is lost due to the raging wood fire
some of the best marihuana in California is grown by the earth people of this eco-region.
I am out in the campaign trail stumping for Harris 2024, otherwise you know I’d be on the fire lines or at the nearest music festival, Jah Ganja!
