Fatal Dirt Bike Collision at Smith River Yesterday

Motorcycle Crash Feature iconAccording to scanner traffic, an accident occurred near Mouth of Smith River Road in Del Norte County at approximately 6:42 p.m. on September 23, when a dirt bike collided with an unknown vehicle, resulting in a crash that left the motorcycle fully engulfed in flames. Emergency responders arrived on the scene after multiple callers reported the incident.

Witnesses stated that the motorcycle exploded, and one individual was found lying in the middle of the roadway, presumed deceased. Please note that it is unclear from the scanner report whether there was one or two riders involved.

Both lanes of traffic were blocked, and Caltrans was called to divert vehicles to Oceanview Drive as emergency crews worked to secure the scene. Around 7:07 p.m., a fatality was confirmed, and a coroner was en route. No additional patients were reported to emergency dispatch.

An evidence tow was requested for a Jeep Wrangler, with four good tires, and the burned motorcycle.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the decedent’s family and friends.

That’s tragic. Dirt bikes were my go to weekend pleasure for over 50 years. At 75, I’ve hung up my old Snell approved helmet, and stay off my bikes. Had a lot of close calls in my life, and wrecks twice. I was lucky.

My most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the dirt bike rider. May he RIP. Sounds like maybe the Jeep Wrangler and dirt bike collided. I also hope the Jeep driver is fine.

To the person who gave me a red thumbs down, were you involved with the accident, or just don’t like my comment.

Possibly because the driver of the jeep was arrested for DUI and manslaughter.

I believe that is the case. What else would the woman driver have hit him with?

He was the love of my life. We had so many plans for the future that we’ll never be able to do, because someone decided to drive drunk. Winse, my Love, I will miss you until we meet again. Have fun in Valhalla
