A solo vehicle accident early this morning on Denny Road in the hills northeast of Trinity Village ended with one person being airlifted to an out of county hospital.

The incident was first reported around 12:55 1:37 a.m., and initial reports indicated the vehicle was not visible from the roadway but soon after the vehicle was said to be on its roof with smoke coming from it.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) units and Trinity County Fire were dispatched to the scene, where they struggled to gain access to the vehicle, which was located over 100 feet down from the roadway. Fire crews worked for several hours to extricate the occupant trapped inside.

By 5:30 a.m., the patient was en route to Mercy Hospital in Redding via Reach, a medical helicopter service.

Authorities will check the crash site during daylight hours to figure out how to recover the vehicle.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

I am very happy to read that the 22-year-old that crashed did survive even though it took several hours to remove him from his vehicle, and transport him to Redding Mercy Hospital. I pray he will heal completely from his major injuries and be hunting again. I do hope a family member or law enforcement will take his buck to his home so he can enjoy some of his trophy. Thank you to the CHP and Trinity County Fire for your hard life saving work at the scene.

Oh that is no place to go over a cliff, it is so steep out there. The Denny road is skinny, winding, twisting cliffhanging hell…hoping for his speedy recovery! Kudos to the first responders out there.
