[UPDATE 10 p.m.] Northbound Lane Closed Near Rio Dell After Semi Hits and Pulls Down a PG&E Wire

Traffic Hazard icon featureA section of the number 1 or inside northbound lane of Highway 101 near Rio Dell was closed late this evening due to a traffic hazard involving a low-hanging wire. The CHP Traffic Incident Information Page reports that about at approximately 9:37 p.m. near the Wildwood Avenue exit, a semi-truck struck the wire, and pulled it down across part of the roadway.  The northbound number one lane has been closed as a result.

Caltrans has been notified and PG&E is en route.

UPDATE 10 p.m.: PG&E is at scene.

Sounds like PG&E missed one of their wires and did not notice it hanging low enough to be struck by a semi. Glad that did not cause a serious accident. PG&E has untold miles of wire, poles, etc., and just can’t keep up with checking every single one.
