Press release from Providence St. Joseph Hospital:

Providence St. Joseph Hospital is announcing the closure of the acute rehabilitation unit (ARU) on the campus of General Hospital in Eureka. Providence will be collaborating with Rockport’s Granada Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Eureka to deliver rehabilitation services in Humboldt County starting on November 18.

Currently, acute rehabilitation services are located at the General Hospital campus in Eureka but due to the state’s mandated seismic (earthquake) structural standards, the General Hospital campus does not meet those standards and will no longer be able to provide inpatient services after 2024. It was our plan to move the ARU to a new building at Redwood Memorial Hospital. Construction began in 2018 but due to various external factors, the project is no longer feasible.

Providence maintains close relationships with many organizations in California that collaborate in providing rehabilitation care for patients. Rockport’s Granada Rehabilitation and Wellness Center has been a long-standing provider of skilled nursing care for Providence patients in Humboldt County and cares for hundreds of Providence patients every year.

“As a health care provider founded over a century ago, we’re committed to serving the community in a responsible and sustainable manner, allowing us to continue our Mission for the next 100 years,” said Michael Keleman, chief executive, Providence Humboldt County. “With that in mind, and with input from local stakeholders and community members – we’ve identified an innovative solution that will best serve patients. We’re excited to announce this critical collaboration with Rockport’s Granada Rehabilitation and Wellness Center to provide rehabilitation services that align with the needs of our community.”

Providence is committed to a smooth transition for all our impacted caregivers. To that end, we will work with their unions as required by current contracts on impacts to their roles including internal or external opportunities that may exist.

Upsizing of costs, downsizing of service. Seems to be mantra of healthcare these days. And like nursing homes are great places to get needed services… don’t provide care and- bada boom- send them across the hall to the life long resident’s side.

Downsizing of what service? I guess anything is better than it has been. Has ol’ Schlomo settled all the lawsuits against his company (Rockport) yet? I’d say there’s a few people he can’t settle with as they’re dead now. I wonder if he’s still billing Medicare for them. https://calmatters.org/health/coronavirus/2021/10/rechnitz-nursing-home-lawsuit-covid-licensing/

Two general trends I have noticed:

1) RHBB’s average reader/commentator appears to have lower than normal reading comprehension skills, which further illustrates the failure of public schools to teach anything at all…

2) Providence lies about everything, and the Catholic Church appears to consider lying about everything to not be wrong, despite all that 10 commandments stuff…

Redwood Hospital, the Goose is fully cooked, and they are about to pull the plug. Sorry, but it’s actually all about profits, not care…

Rockport is over 2 hours away.
In MENDOCINO County.
This is NOT a practical solution – if only in the matter of getting the patients there.

I wonder if it’s a newly created entity and where it will be. I can’t find any indication that Granada has a new name.

Shlomo Rechnitz was and is the owner of Rockport LP, Bruis and a ton of other facilities. Dozens of them. There’s some issues. He just got relicensed for the local facilities last year.

Rockport is the corporate name for the Eureka facility. There is nothing in Rockport, CA except an old school turned into a house and about 6 or so other homes on Rockport Street. Rockport is an old “doghole” port like Westport to the south and Usal to the north.

It is in Eureka. Rockport is its new spinoff name.

Rockport is the pseudonym the Brius Corporation uses in Humboldt County. Or vice versa. It’s hard to keep track when these wretchedly dishonest, greedy, heartless bastards hide behind their LLCs and shell corporations.

Granada and its owners have always been terrible. It’s bad enough our healthcare is run by religious orgs that do not pay taxes and maximize profits over patients-very Christian ideals. Gawd help us all

Religion bashing is apparently an atheist elitist sport considering that St. Joe’s wouldn’t even exist with its religious foundation and Mad River Hospital has shut down more and is up for sale, if they can find someone willing to buy it- without any religious affiliations at all.
When Athiest’s Mercy Hospital springs into existence, you might have a point. But that’s not likely with the burdens government has placed on hospitals of all kinds. And that’s pretty non- religious relsukt.

There are many, MANY secular hospitals… like the Mayo Clinic, all Veterans Hospitals, Kaiser Permanente, Baylor Hospital, Johns Hopkins, UC Davis, San Francisco General Hospital… I could go on, but the point is, there are non-religious affiliated hospitals and almost all of them provide superior care.

There are non affiliated hospitals but usually if you devle deeply into their histories, they secularized hospitals later in their history. The other great impetus for creating hospital was the military for treating veterans.
“Mayo was placed in charge of organizing medical care for the wounded survivors. Needing nurses, he reached out to Mother Alfred Moes, the founder of the Sisters of Saint Francis of Rochester, Minnesota (a teaching order).
After the crisis subsided, Mother Alfred approached W. W. Mayo with a proposal: The Sisters of St. Francis would raise funds to build a hospital in Rochester if he and his sons provided medical and surgical care. The agreement was made over a handshake. On September 30, 1889, Saint Mary’s Hospital was opened by the Sisters with the three Mayo physicians on staff.”
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayo_Clinic
John Hopkins was a secular institution from the start. According to Hopkins “It is my special request that the influences of religion should be felt in and impressed upon the whole management of the hospital; but I desire, nevertheless, that the administration of the charity shall be undisturbed by sectarian influences, discipline, or control.”
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/about/history/johns-hopkins
And Kaiser, a man of great wealth looking providing health care for their employees.. The VA, Davis and UCSF hospitals originated from US government military hospitals.

Shame on the government for having standards in healthcare! Such heathens!
Shame on me for questioning the invisible sky hippie’s blind endorsement of substandard care!
Shame on me for questioning why every “church “ owns tens of millions of dollars of real estate ( tax free) along Central Park in NYC!
But also:
Shame on all of you trolls ? for murdering the written form of the English language!
I’ve simultaneously become an elitist, an atheist, and an athiest…. All on the same day!
Winning!?
??energy, yo!
…. But I still can’t find the definition of”relsukt”?
Oh.. and I think you meant agnostic, btw. But whatevs✌️

Petty and against Kym’s rules but you are right. About spelling at least. Then again responding to trolls takes up too much time to spend too much effort at polishing comments read by people who miss the sarcasm anyway.

Like the old joke “The operation was a success but the patient died”( one size fits all standards being the operation and health providers being the dead patent) , if a standard is not available in small towns, are you better off with no hospital at all?

Like people without religion never do anything wrong…(yes sarcasm) Religion is a tool. In the wrong hands it does bad. In the right hands it does good. The only real advantage in religion is that it can provide a direction for charity that is much more rare in the secular world.

Yeah I agree providence is terrible. You get more attention from them on the bill then you do in the hospital.

Unless Providence maintains the same dedicated staff to work in Granada, it’s just trading great care for barely adequate care at a substandard facility. Brius deliberately understaffs their facilities to save money and the aides they currently hire are mostly from out of area contractors. They’re lazy and largely incompetent and mostly interested only in the overtime pay their agencies provide. They don’t give a fat rat’s ass about the residents in their care and from personal experience, I can honestly testify that some of them are abusive towards the elders in their care. It’s why I will NEVER work for that company ever again.

The Rehabilitation Unit at the Old General Hospital provided gold medal care to their patients. They’re not going to receive that at Granada. This is a prime example of why MBAs should’ve NEVER been allowed in healthcare. It involves more than just money… a concept the heartless bastards refuse to acknowledge.

“…we’ve identified an innovative solution that will best serve patients. We’re excited…”

to save money and provide sub-par solutions. Just like they did with in-house labs. The only game in town and they’re running it into the ground.

For a non-profit they’re very focused on profit.

I believe that they are a “not-for-profit” rather than a “non profit” which is a BIG difference. Most health care corporations are the former.

However Labcorp has one improvement. A doctor’s order is not needed for a lot of their tests just in case you want to check something for yourself. Labcorp will provide the necessary doctor order.

A urinalysis is $49. As a pregnancy test $49. . PSA $69. HIV $89. Syphilis $59. Not dirt cheap but still if you don’t have a doctor but have a need, not out of reach for most.

My father was at Granada and my wife told me she wouldn’t send a sick chicken there. Unless family visits daily they are short staffed and patients were neglected. I doubt that it has improved in the last fifteen years!
