[UPDATE 8:33 p.m.: Forward Spread Stopped] Fire Burning North of Yreka Forcing Evacuations

About 5:45 p.m. a fire started northeast of Yreka in the area of Cod Drive which is east of I-5. The Cod Fire, as it is being called, was spreading rapidly and threatening multiple structures. As of 6:30 p.m., it is approximately 15 acres. At 6:44 p.m., the fire is slowing to a moderate rate of speed, according to Cole Euken of Watch Duty. The fire is now 20 acres. However, there are multiple spot fires, according to a deputy speaking over the scanner about 6:45 p.m.

Mandatory evacuations are being sent out as of 6:15 p.m. According to traffic over the scanner, Siskiyou County deputies are going door to door evacuating residents and even a dog in one case.

There are spot fires in the area of Sea Horse and Kimberly Drive and deputies are unable to check homes to make sure everyone has evacuated, a deputy told dispatch about 6:45 p.m.
