Solo Vehicle Crash Leads to DUI Arrest on Hwy 101
Early this morning, a crash occurred on Highway 101 near Mill Creek Campground Road south of Crescent City, leading to the arrest of a driver on charges of driving under the influence. At approximately 12:49 a.m., a solo SUV veered off the road, crashing into a ditch and colliding with a tree about 20 feet from the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Traffic Incident Information Page.
The vehicle, which caught fire shortly after the crash, was completely destroyed by the blaze. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the SUV, managed to escape with only minor injuries before the fire engulfed the vehicle.
Authorities responded to the scene and conducted a field sobriety test, which the driver failed. Subsequently, the driver was arrested and booked under California Vehicle Code 23152(a) and (b), pertaining to driving under the influence of alcohol.
