[UPDATE: Located] Have You Seen Shelly? Missing Local Woman in Humboldt County
Family is trying to locate Shelly Mills, a local resident who went missing yesterday morning. Mills, who was last seen leaving her house at approximately 9:15 a.m. on May 22nd, was presumably headed to work in Eureka but never arrived.
Her daughter, Nastassia Lake, reached out to us seeking help from the community to locate her mother. In a heartfelt plea posted online, Lake provided information about Mills and her last known whereabouts.
“She could have headed toward Southern Humboldt…,” Lake wrote. “She left the house in her truck…gold/champagne 04 Chevy Silverado…[I]t’s a 4 door short bed with silver running boards. She was wearing grey sweatpants and a grey hoodie with pink and teal on it. She had a dark pink ball cap and bright pink shoes. She is approximately 5’3”, 130 pounds & long dark hair. Her cell phone was left at home so we can’t track that.”
Lake emphasized the urgency of the situation and appealed to the public for any assistance. “We are asking everyone to keep an eye out for Shelly or her truck or if you happen to have any information please contact law enforcement or her family,” she added.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department has been notified. If anyone has any information regarding Shelly Mills’ whereabouts or any sightings of her vehicle, please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department at (707) 445-7251.

UPDATE 7 p.m.: Shelly’s daughter posted two updates today. She wrote first, “we have checked cameras along 36 and we caught her truck getting on the north bound on ramp. On her last google search she looked up Carter Meadows in Siskiyou County.” And then a second update, “we did spot her truck on Great Western cameras at 9:32 on the 22nd going North bound. If anyone has cameras on their business along 101 that could look it could really help us.”

The town of her home that she started out from would be helpful…
Hydesville
It would be. I tried the link but Facebook no longer allows non member to see stuff.
I saw the Facebook link earlier today, but the information was the same, with no starting location given, but someone posted Hydesville in this comment section that is still on moderation…
Hydesville is where I loosely determined it to be this morning, after seeing the Facebook post…
So Hydesville is somewhat confirmed, I’d say…
I see someone on moderation, possibly a new commenter, has posted Hydesville as the place she started out…
If she was headed to Southern Humboldt, could she have headed EAST on 36, and then taken Alderpoint Road to Southern Humboldt…???
Lots of dangerous twists and turns along that route…
Might be worth checking…
I will keep my eye out for her, but that is not my route for today…
Prayers up…!!!
She also could have gone west on 36 down towards 101 and then gone south. Which is a lot easier to do from Hydesville
Hydesville down to 101 where she went either North or South.
According to a comment in the FB post Shelly’s home is in Hydesville.
I’m confused. She was supposedly headed to work in Eureka, yet she may have been heading to SoHum?
Can this be elaborated upon? Why would she go 80 miles in the opposite direction? Is there friends or family down here she may have had to take care of in an emergency? Assisted living center? A specific neighborhood she may have gone to?
Details might help people help you.
We don’t know where she went – just that she left home at 9:15 and went either North or South on HWY 101. We have contacted all family and friends. Please help look for her pickup if you can in any out of the way areas.
Just to ask, would she have ever gone over AP road to 101 to avoid any road work on 36? Or any other routes?
Id check with the ups, fedex, usps and onetrac local delivery folks too, you never know.
There were multiple dates given for that roadwork on 36, if there are crews doing stop/slow signs on 36 ask them all.
Anyone driven 36 today?
Really hope for the best ?
Do you know if she packed a bag ? And also what is in her right hand ? Praying ?
I’m out Ruth and kettenpom Zetia will be covered as soon as the article is seen people will keep an eye out
Leaving ones cell phone behind and missing work seems odd. The highways and biways are challenging at best in the area.
You’ve posted good pics and descriptions. Hopefully you’ll post a happy ending.
She might have a track phone that nobody knows about…??♀️ She might have old or new friends nobody knows about…Hopefully she finds clarity on her excursion & calls home/ someone to check in. ??
From a comment on the FB post:
“Shelly lives in Hydesville just down from the post office towards Alton”
From her daughter Nastassia Mills Lake: “Update: we have checked cameras along 36 and we caught her truck getting on the north bound on ramp. On her last google search she looked up Carter Meadows in Siskiyou County.” https://www.facebook.com/nastassia.m.lake
Looking up Carter Meadows Campground in Klamath National Forest this:“Area Status: Closed”” 5/13/2024 Campground expected to open mid-June due the good snow year we had, known hazard trees remaining to be mitigated, and needed repairs to the water systems before we can open.”https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/klamath/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=13111&actid=33
The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the county highway between Cecilville and Calahan at Carter Meadows Summit. Many trails into Trinity and Russian Wilderness and other more developed USFS nearby (Shadow Creek etc.).
I’d start the search by talking to the man in her life or any men who were recently in her life.
Yes Squatchferatu, I agree!
Such a sexist remark.
in domestic violence murder situations, the man is the murderer 92 percent of the time..
Well, he was at work with a bunch of other people while she was videoed driving her truck. I’m sure that you upbeat and supportive comments are very helpful to him and her family during this stressful time. Way to be a wonderful human.
There was zero reports of any conflicts . And while males might inflict greater physical damage females inflict far greater emotional damage wounds heal emotional damage lingers long past broken bones heal i suggest so real research about the causes of male on female abuse before assuming the sexist views of the current feminists who want people to believe that a unwanted touch from a male to a female is rape yet for a male to be raped he must be physically penetrated . The same group that looks for perfect victims to promote their own agenda , but i digress fact remains there was zero claims of conflict so to state such about a male partner is pure sexist crap
Your handle is appropriate
Carter meadows is beautiful go there every year hope they find her safe and healthy
Beautiful woman! I hope she finds some beautiful spring wildflowers and rejuvenation…and brings that inspiration home. Wishing for the best possible outcome
It says last seen going northbound at 36 and 101 atleast that’s what I’m getting out of it
I hope Shelly is found or returns home safely. Sending love and strength to her family during this difficult time.
If she was going to somewhere near Carter Meadows then she would have passed through Willow Creek at the earliest 10:40 if she drove straight there after passing Great Western
Try and get the camera footage from Willow Creek Ray’s, or Coast Central if it points towards the road.
Chevron looks like it has cameras from google but she may turned before Chevron if she was following google directions.
Any chance that her pickup can be traced through onstar?
