H & I Streets are just too wide for their own good. I know the new bike lanes on H & I will anger some, but I hope they will slow traffic down and make it safer for everyone.

Don’t really see any (or many) ‘wild’ speed races on H and I. City dropped the speed limit from 35 to 30… but left the interval timing on the traffic lights for 35 mph.
Odd huh ?

Go figure.

You’re oblivious. It’s going to do nothing but send speeders onto side streets……. man you people are hopeful morons……. how much more stuff do yall need to mess up to attempt to please your “mental” state….. has everyone to do with distracted drivers or under the influence…… you don’t have this sort of collision at a light because of 3 lanes domer.

Red means stop. Green means wait and make sure the other person has stopped.

Wait at a green light and check the road to make sure nobody is coming ?
Hmm, if that is the case… there will be massive gridlock, traffic jams galore, and rear end collisions. Modern Western Civilization will come to an end.

I think what Just a Thought means is waiting that one-second (or less) beat before proceeding when the light turns green to be sure, for example, that no one is trying to beat the light that just turned red in the other direction. That fraction of a second pause can save trouble and even lives.

I was riding with a friend in his car. As we approached an intersection, the light turned red and he floored it, flying the car through the intersection, narrowly missing cars with their horns wailing. As I released my death clutch, I asked, “what the heck did you do that for?” He replied, “relaaaax, my brother does it all the time.” A few blocks later, he did it again. This time, the light was redder than the blood on the street: horns honking, fists and middle fingers flailing out of windows. “Whoa there, buddy,” I exclaimed, “you’re gonna get us killed.” Again he calmly replied, “It’s OK, calm down. My brother does it ALLLL the time.” This didn’t ease my mind. I was ready to risk jumping out versus another intersection. As we were just about to fly through the next red light at hyper speed, the light turned green and he hit the brakes. The car screeched to a stop just shy of white line marking the crossing. Even with the seatbelt on, my head nearly hit the windshield. I looked around, then at him. While I was glad he actually did know how to use the brakes, I questioned his actions. “Dude, it’s green. Green means go. Let’s go.” “No way man! No way.” He seemed a bit scared. “Why not?” I asked. Looking side to side, he replied, “my brother might be coming the other way.”

By the extent of the damage, my money it betting it was the bigger, heavier truck as the aggressor. Not that I’ve seen people driving those rigs act all proud, speeding around and all. That Jeep would have had to be going 85MPH to do that kinda damage.
Hope all are okay and no permanent injuries.

I think I’m the world of traffic they call it “at fault”. Using aggressor is a bit over the top just based on whichever was at fault nobody wanted to total their car.

Probably – the black pickup is smashed across the front, and the white Jeep is smashed on the side/front. About the only way that can happen is if the black pickup ran into the side of the Jeep, and the only way that happens is if the Jeep is in the intersection first.

Yup… It continues. A grey Toyota pickup blew through a red light at 14th and Broadway at 11:30 this morning. No attempt to stop… bam… went at 30 mph through the intersection. Luckily he missed everybody.

Crowded intersection… that would have been a bad accident.

That light definitely needs adjusting as there is not even a three second delay between yellow and red with the cross traffic getting green in an instant. Longer period for yellow and a bigger pause for cross traffic before giving them the green/go. It really would be ok to have a pause where traffic is not moving in any direction for a moment. The road is too wide, traffic too fast and dodging in and out, mix it up with bicycles and pedestrians, a little break in movement would be nice and perhaps save a life.
