Supreme Court Denys R.J. Reynolds’ Attempt to Block California’s Flavored Tobacco Ban from Taking Effect

Press release from the California Department of Justice:Department of Justice smaller

California Attorney General Rob Bonta [yesterday] issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s order denying R.J. Reynolds’ emergency application for a writ of injunction to prevent SB 793, California’s ban on flavored tobacco products, from taking effect later this month.

“Flavored tobacco products have hooked a new generation of young smokers at a time when tobacco is already the number one preventable killer in the United States,” said Attorney General Bonta. “I applaud the Supreme Court for denying Big Tobacco’s latest attempt to block California’s commonsense ban on flavored tobacco products. The voters of California approved this ban by an overwhelming margin in the November election and now it will finally take effect. I look forward to continuing to defend this important law against any further legal challenges.”

A copy of the State’s opposition to the emergency application is available here. The Supreme Court’s order is available here.

Here’s the new thing:

https://www.vice.com/en/article/88q3va/tianeptine-gas-station-heroin-legal-in-most-states

Like I said, new drugs, totally legal, will steal the cannabis business while addicting another generation of future drug dilettantes…

One more reason to give it all up and start an “In Home Senior Care Center” and get fat off of Medi-Cal, like SoHum Health and all those other Critical-Access Hospitals…

If you want to survive in the drug business, you just need a new product that is addictive AND profitable…

Menthol cigarettes have been popular within a segment of society forever. Seems this new law targets their personal choice.

Does their personal choice affect others in our society? If so, it’s not so personal.

Pretty much every personal choice you make affects others in our society.

I’m personally a lot more concerned about preventable phentanyl deaths than menthol cigarettes and mint flavored chew. Does anyone doubt there will be a large black market demand for these products? I bet stateline convenience stores see a huge uptick in sales of these products.

Just wait until Marijuana has accumulated enough research made possible by legalization to join tobacco in the garbage bin of health literature.

It would be extraordinarily surprising if after decades and decades of research with the goal of uncovering negative health effects of cannabis, new research pointed to damaging health effects.

Smoking tobacco doesn’t kill everyone and not right away in any case. And everyone knew people who “smoked like a smokestack” who were still going in their eighties. So smokers refused to believe that it was damaging. There are people who still deny it is unhealthy.

It’s not until population studies were done on many people smoking over many years that the correlation to cancer and heart disease became clear. Legalization means many more smoking and being willing to say so. For the first time there can be enough data. The result should be no surprise to anyone who has read an article about a new less toxic process to clean glassware of Marijuana residue that there is no such process to clean their lungs.

I don’t care why they say they are banning menthol. It’s removing our rights to smoke what we want . If you don’t want your kids to smoke it ain’t the menthol doing it it’s you teach them right from wrong. They will fall in love with a non menthol now. Then when they remove that from choice they will remove something else. Etc. It’s not fair. To stop menthol cig sales. Heck my adult pals can’t even smoke my camel menthol wides say too strong. Well really why would a kid!!!
I say cut off the flavored cigars n rolling papers leave smokes alone.. I will cross the border and boit leg those darn things I I need too. Ha then what. . See create a problem just like the fentanyl issue cuz they removed pain pills. Omg!!! Will these folks ever learn.

It’s amazing that a Schedule I substance is legal, but a schedule IV substance takes a miracle to obtain… If CVS and Wal-Mart pay any more billions, they will probably give up running a pharmacy entirely…

Be happy that 80,000,000 people on Part D medicare are keeping you in business, CVS and Wal-Mart, because soon there will be over the counter remedies for everything…
