Local Company Launches ‘First Sustainable Cannabis Glass Cleaning Device’

Press release from CIRO:

CIRO, the first sustainable cannabis glass cleaning device, has launched as the fastest, healthiest and most affordable way to clean bongs, pipes and other resin-dirtied glass in under 15 minutes.

The result of over three years of testing and development, CIRO utilizes industrial ultrasonic cleaning technology that has been specifically tuned to smoking glassware, in combination with an innovative design and environmentally-conscious engineering.

For the first time, sparkling glass and full-flavor terpenes can be enjoyed by every person, at every session. The hands-free design is accessible to everyone – including medical patients and disabled users who struggle to maintain the level of cleanliness that they deserve with traditional methods. Users simply fill their piece with water, place it in CIRO’s stainless steel bowl, drop in a resin-emulsifying soap tablet and press the “on” button. CIRO then effortlessly dislodges oily resin from bongs, pipes and more. Water can be safely poured down the drain after cleaning, leaving only clean glass behind.

Created by cannabis elder Laura Costa and cannabis industry veteran Cara Cordoni, CIRO was born out of a lifetime of experience and personal need.

“Many small farmers didn’t make it through the oppressive permitting costs and red tape of legalization, and many have had to reinvent themselves and find other ways to provide for their families”, says Costa, “I needed to pivot, and I did. CIRO is the plot twist – I never imagined that my training as an electrician would resurface in this way and at this time in my life. I’m really proud of what we’ve done with CIRO and the potential that we have to provide a less wasteful and healthier cleaning and consumption experience for the cannabis community.”

Designed to work without single-use plastic bottles of liquid cleaner or rock salt and alcohol, one CIRO device alone yields the following financial and environmental impact for every user, over the course of just two years:

$500 in solution costs savings

100 plastic bottles eliminated from the waste stream

100 liters of waste chemicals eliminated from the water supply

Engineered for performance and durability, CIRO includes a lifetime warranty. The company has additionally developed a circular business model that will repair or reclaim products at end-of-life.

CIRO has launched for pre-sale on Indiegogo. A pledge of US$185 reserves one CIRO + accessories at 26% off the retail price of $250. Multiple packs are available for dispensaries at a more generous discount. To see CIRO in action, or to pre-purchase a unit, visit https://igg.me/at/cirocleaner.

About CIRO

CIRO is a circular consumer technology company based in Humboldt, California – part of the legendary Emerald Triangle. It is women-founded and owned, and a registered Social Purpose Corporation.

this doesn’t sound septic safe. buy a small enough piece to use a Q-tip and clean after every use. bongs lead to respiratory issues and shouldn’t be used.

How is a bong any different than any other smoking method? With water you’re even getting a little filtration.

At the big 10 college I grew up near, my childhood friend that swam on their men’s team said that several of the coaches and many of the swimmers were convinced that bong smoking was a useful practice for improving their lung capacity. Not very scientific, but those guys were very serious about their pulmonary performance

The only concern with water pipes is to change the water once a day. Ambient mold spores can reproduce in your smoking device otherwise.

I change mine about every 2 or 3 weeks, along with the old isopropyl and salt treatment, but I’ve gone much longer in the past, never had any lung issues, never seen mold in a bong. I think all the nonfiltered cigs i smoke keep my lungs sterilized.

Yeah I always preferred to store my water pipes dry. I’ve been a joint smoker for years at this point though.

Exactly! The water can form a ‘bio-film’ – by changing the water daily we can avoid that. Ambient mold can also grow on the resin that accumulates in the bong, which isn’t fixed with clean water only. For regular smokers, this device makes cleanliness super accessible.

If they were worried about their pulmonary performance they would not be smoking anything. There are breathing devices that work the lungs buit do not involve smoking.

Well I can only report what I observed. Apparently for these, and many other, athletes the benefits they gained from smoking cannabis outweighed the performance costs. And they expressly cited the bong as the preferred method of consumption

Great question about being septic safe. The soap tabs we are designing are absolutely septic safe. If you use the cleaner daily, you hardly need soap at all. You can also use the septic safe soap that you already use – the soap emulsifies the resins so that they don’t stick, that’s about it. If one changes water and cleans regularly, then bongs work well for many of us.

You have to CLEAN a BONG?

Just fill it with Sherry or Cointreau, and drink it later…

Ever think of pipe cleaners?

I’ll “bong” YOU in a minute…

I’m not even gonna say what I think it looks like…

“I needed to pivot, and I did….”

I hope this part doesn’t go missed by readers. This is the key to a better future and leaving behind the gloom that blankets the triangle.

Pick a new frontier, start learning and training now, keep at it without wavering and soon you’ll be in that new future. You can control the form of your potential self, if you try.

Thank you for noticing and pointing out ‘the pivot.’ We are doing our best to do something new about which we can be proud and that will ultimately be good for our local community and for the environment. It’s not easy to pivot, and we could not have done it without support from so many. And we’re still in the middle of it!

Baking soda seems to work great for me

Just stuff as much as possible into the pipe then put it in boiling water. If fizzes the gunk right out.

its an ultra sonic cleaner. There is no SDS posted for the soap that i could find. lets hope its not tri-sodium phosphate soap which is what most sonic cleaners use. TSP is banned in some states and very bad for receiving surface water bodies.

Rubbing alcohol will wipe away resin deposits on your smoking equipment so fast your head will spin. For a dollar or two you can get enough to last all year. No need for expensive gear.

I agree, but I don’t think we are the target market for this product. I can absolutely see a percentage of tokers being interested in this needlessly complicated cleaning device for their needlessly complicated smoking toys.

Can someone explain where the oily resins go? Wouldn’t they turn back into something gunky as they go down the drain?
I have always used boiling water. It’s fast, clean, affordable, and easy. Well, definitely affordable, and sorta all of those other things. The only drawback is that your whole kitchen or house will smell like a dirty bong if you do it inside. So you could probably boil water, then take it outside to set the pipe in it and do the work.
What i do is put the pipe in enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. Turn it off and let it sit there for a while. Take it out with tongs (don’t throw out the water yet) and use a cotton swab to push and pull the funky resins out of the skinny little recesses inside the pipe– they’ll come right off. You can use the still-hot water to keep loosening and rinsing. Give it a final rinse under the hot-water faucet; rub the outside with alcohol as a finishing touch; toss the cleaning water out on some gravel as it probably would not be good in the drain.
Behold the original bowl in its naked splendor.

It seems the emulsified mixture will likely recombine into an oily residue. However with an environmentally friendly soap, dumping the water outside shouldnt be an issue.
Since this provides an easy way to clean, regular if not daily use could easily “dissipate” any issues involving too much residue.
I can see this adding a lot of value to medicinal use, in that there is no residue from alcohol or anything else to worry about smoking. Though the boiling water obviously isnt harmful, a lot of folks would probably botch that and break there glass.
So many dirty bongs…… if heavy use bongs had an easy way to be clean, they would be clean more often then otherwise, cuz, yeah, people:)

A gallon of 99% isopropyl alcohol and a box of kosher salt is ~$30 and will keep pipes clean for years. Add a $3 pack of pipe cleaners if you’re really concerned.

But then the nug has no resin to hold it in the bowl and will creep upward and outward. I cannot imagine this being cheaper than isopropyl and rock salt. If you really need a surefire way to taste flavor profiles and experience the aroma, roll a fatty! Elements rice papers are preferable, and use scissors to chop it up, grinders shred shit too finely. I like to smear a bunch of BHO on the paper if I have time. Blunts are to be avoided, joints get me waaaay higher.

Joints are the easiest thing to clean. You just throw away the roach when you’re done! I’m glad to be an old school joint smoker. The only thing that maybe used to suck were having those FAT roaches that you didn’t want to go to waste. But now that killer weed is only $300/pound that makes joints way affordable. Let’s see- roll up an eighth into a fatty and you get 8×16=128 joints per pound at $300/pound yeah that’s $2.35 per fat joint! A nd now we can just throw away that roach! Isn’t it great that good weed is now so very cheap?! Yay!

But honestly I wish them well in their new venture. We know there are many people out there for who the cost of this device is peanuts. Many wealthy-ish people throwing money around so I hope they can corral some. After all it is the newest cool thing on the market and lots of people need that. And it does reduce waste so right on sisters- Best of Luck out there!

These are local people trying something new. I hope they can grab some of that loose cash out there and bring it back, spend it in our community. Maybe you or I don’t need it but hey- there are people out there spending money on much stupider things (Dead and Company tickets come to mind; also phish). At least these women are trying something…

Once upon a time there was a mountain that rose out of a vast green forest. And in the forest there were birds and lakes and rocks and trees and rivers. The forest was also inhabited by a small group of people called the lizards. The lizards were a simple people and they had lived in the forest undisturbed for thousands of years in utter peace and tranquility.
Once a year when spring came, and the first blossoms began to show, the lizards would gather at the base of the mountain to give thanks for all that they had. They thanked the birds and they thanked the lakes and they thanked the rocks and the trees and the rivers; but most importantly, they thanked Icculus.
Icculus lived at the top of the mountain, or at least everyone thought so, for no one had actually ever seen him. But they knew he existed, because they had the Helping Friendly Book. Icculus had given the Helping Friendly Book to the Lizards thousands of years earlier as a gift. It contained all of the knowledge inherent in the universe, and had enabled the Lizards to exist in harmony with nature for years.
And so they lived; until one day a traveler arrived in Gamehendge. His name was Wilson and he quickly became intrigued by the Lizards way of life. He asked if he could stay on and live in the forest; and the Lizards, who had never seen an outsider, were happy to oblige.
Wilson lived with the Lizards for a few years, studying the ways of the Helping Friendly Book, and all was well. Until one morning when they awoke and the book was gone. Wilson explained that he had hidden the book, knowing that the Lizards had become dependent on it for survival. He declared himself king and enslaved the innocent people of Gamehendge. He cut down the trees and built a city, which he called Prussia. And in the center of the city he built a castle, and locked in the highest tower of the castle lay the Helping Friendly Book out of the reach of the Lizards forever.
