I can only assume speed was a factor. I’m highly unimpressed at how guys will drive when towing. I had a guy blow by me on an uphill going 70mph, hauling. Better your gas than mine, Buddy, but geez … NOT SAFE!
Gears at the top so you got brakes at the bottom! That’s a freaky grade!
Excellent comment. Wish more folks would take your advice!
My boss and I used to buzz out to the cove to ab dive or on hot afternoons to get a break from the heat. Every time right before passing the store, he would say, “Do you smell that? Some jackass up ahead is burning up his breaks!”
The first few times I actually thought it was someone I front of us, then I realized what was happening. I always said prayer and wore my seat belt when riding with that guy.
He always said you could kill someone with a roll of toilet paper on that road. Lay it on the fog line and roll it over the edge on one of those hairpin turns.
I passed them on the ridge…they were going about 5 miles per hour
I didn’t mention that it was obvious that the trailer was a heavy load for the runner…I went around (passed) last night as runner was creeping up the ridge. I pray for a speedy recovery to the injured.
Toyota 4Runner (newer ones with automatic trans) doesn’t have much engine braking anyway. Lucky to hold the vehicle back… without a trailer.
Haul in 4 WD.
Slap it into lo. That slows ya down.
Most people won’t do that, especially on corners… chirp… chirp… chirp… bang.
I drove the road watering truck in the woods when I was fifteen years old. My dad told me very emphatically that “brakes are for one thing… stopping. If you are riding your brakes, you are in the wrong gear”.
Did you have a Jake
Nope. An 50’s vintage White with a 5 speed main, 4sped brownie and a duplex. Gears out the wazoo. All square. Double clutch and shove. The good old days!
Over, direct, under, and double under brownie.
Don’t think that hitch ball is supposed to be pointed that way. Might have been the problem. Just kidding, must have been a wild ride. Welcome to the Cove!
Brakes don’t fail, humans fail.
Yes, brakes do and can fail even on new SUV’s.
Failed brakes. Probably riding the brakes down hill on tures etc.
U-Haul trailers have surge brakes, if any at all. They’re not gonna work well once the tow vehicle loses theirs, and you’re all free-willy down the hill.
I always go into SC backwards. That way I’m pointed uphill and I don’t have to use my brakes that much.
i love this. too funny thank u dogbiter
