Driver Dies After Ejected from Vehicle off Hwy 299
Press release from the Trinity River CHP:
On Saturday, October 1, 2022, at approximately 0403 hours, Trinity River CHP officers were advised by a passing motorist of what appeared to be a vehicle off the road on SR-299, east of Slattery Gulch Road.
Officers responded to the area and located a white Chevrolet Suburban, which was off the roadway and overturned onto its roof. The sole occupant, and driver of the vehicle, was later identified as 30 year old Damario Williams of Manchester, Jamaica. Williams was found to have been ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. It was determined Williams had not been wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Drugs and/or Alcohol have not been ruled out as a possible contributing factor to the cause of this crash. The crash is currently under investigation. If anyone witnessed the crash, or has any additional information regarding this crash, they are requested to contact Officer Barto at the Trinity River CHP office at (530) 623-3832. Trinity River CHP would like to remind everyone to please wear their seatbelts.

Another sad story. I don’t know why Damario Williams from Jamaica was not wearing his seatbelt, but he paid a dear price by losing his life because of it. My condolences to his family and friends. May he RIP. People let what happened to Mr. Williams be a lesson to you as what can happen if your seatbelt is not on. Please buckle up everyone in your vehicle, it only takes a second.
Well…as someone who doesn’t always put on my seat belt I noted this also. Sounds like the only difference between life and death here was the getting ejected from the vehicle part. Now I want to set up a belt for my dog too! These mountain roads are about to get icy and wet….
Farce, please buckle yourself and dog up. If your rig has a back seat, I recommend buckling the dog back there. If equipped your front seat airbag can kill you pet. If he is pretty small, he probably won’t turn on the air bag sensor in the seat. It should say so on your dash. Have safe journey’s this winter.

What does Jamaica have to do with him driving the 299 highway at night? Do you think because he was from Jamaica, he was transporting drugs? That is an uncalled-for comment until we know the truth! Just let it go, he perished in the accident.

What else can you do when there is a complete lack of information. Because the gentleman was from Jamaica people tend to think and foreign person must have drugs on board. I don’t think you read my comment very well. Try again.
Lotsa reasons. My girl just did it because she likes to drive at night. Getting into winter some people choose to drive early evening to avoid the ice that forms and holds into late morning. Some people even overstay our local paradise and have to go to work back home the next day! Many reasons for many people…
He lived up there. A lot of us live up there. And yes he should have been wearing his seat belt. I hope you never drive at night. Cuz if you do, I’ll wonder why. How lame. A lot of people drive at night. Including me. 299 is dangerous. He wasn’t carrying drugs.
