FBI Warns the Public About Telephone Scammers Inpersonating FBI Agents

Press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Sacramento Field Office:

Scam alert tcsoThe Federal Bureau of Investigation Sacramento Field Office (FBI Sacramento) is cautioning the public to be wary of any unsolicited call, especially if the caller claims to be from the FBI.

“Nothing sends a person into a panic like a call from law enforcement, especially when the call informs them that they have been a victim of a crime or may be wanted for a crime,” explained Acting Special Agent in Charge Dennis Guertin. “Sadly, that response is something scammers are leveraging with increased frequency, so it is important to educate the public about what to look out for.”

Scammers are sophisticated and any unsolicited call, text or email can be a path for a scammer to attempt to gain your trust and separate you from your hard-earned money. To ensure your security and safety:

  • Never click on links contained in unsolicited emails or texts. The links may route you to fake websites or deploy malicious software on your phone or computer.
  • Never trust the caller ID number; the displayed telephone number can be manipulated with software.
  • Never be afraid to hang up on an unsolicited caller.
  • Always consider sending unsolicited phone calls to voicemail. Most scam call centers will not leave a message.
  • Always check the email address of seemingly official communications and feel free to reach out to your bank or credit card company directly by calling the telephone number on the back of your card to verify if the email is legitimate.

Some scammers impersonate FBI agents over the phone. “The public should not be afraid to hang up on an alleged agent. An authentic FBI agent will find other ways to contact you, if necessary,” said Guertin.

An official FBI special agent will never provide you with a badge number or telephone number to attempt to verify their identity without additional verification. Instead, they will direct you to the official FBI website www.FBI.gov to locate the local field office’s telephone number and encourage you to make a call.

FBI will never call or email you to do any of the following:

  • Make demands for money, wire transfers, gift cards, or bitcoin.
  • Coordinate financial transactions of any kind.
  • Threaten arrest.

Reporting scams is an important step to protect yourself and others from victimization. All scams can be reported online on the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center website, www.ic3.gov, or call your local FBI field office.

Also be advised that the FBI will never lie to the court to obtain warrants to wire tap a political opponent or cover up gross malfeasance for a political ally or their children.

Thank you. I knew some ReTrumplican would make a comment like yours. Made my day. I love how the “Law and Order” party is currently throwing the FBI under the bus because they dared to investigate your orange cult hero.

Comedy gold. President Trump is no longer President but apparently he is a huge threat to YOU. Good. Rent free living causes mental illness. Think of it as the little ear worm from the bot fly that crawled in your earhole when u were hanging out on the beach in Costa Rica. It is currently migrating to the medulla oblongata and is eating it. All the while the old, white, incontinent, baby food eater Joe stomps on your face like babies tend to do to family pet dogs when their parents are in the other room. No wonder the dog bit back. BrainSmog.

There’s plenty of evidence to support your post…The FBI has obviously been weaponized.

I hate to break it to you, but your party is about to split, the smart portion thinks you are all nuts and is not going to follow. they make up ~70% leaving the nuts a 3rd party that will never make it. it’s coming so brace yourself. once again education is key.

You’re very funny…MAGA supporters are on a roll, especially after poopy pants O’Biden demeaned and attacked 50% of America, in his latest speech/blunder. Poopy pants consolidated and energized the republican party.

Good luck in Pennsylvania and Georgia with your “MAGA” heroes. The mid-terms should have been a slam dunk for the Republicans, but the MAGA wing took them down a losing path.
There is a huge difference between real Republicans and MAGA supporters.

Your perception of the truth is skewed. You drank the kool aid from our biased and corrupt lames stream media that’s the propaganda arm of the democrat party. 93% of what the media reports about President Trump is proven to be an outright lie or misleading. How did that phony Russian collusion about Trump work out for you and your party of Trump haters? $ hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars wasted on partisan witch hunts by democrats. All republicans are MAGA supporters. Democrats are headed down a socialist rabbit hole again and on a race to the ethical and moral bottom.

The FBI, DOJ and CIA have been weaponized by the left and the corruption is systemic from top to bottom…All three agencies have no issues with setting anyone up, especially if you’re a conservative.

please cite some of this evidence. maybe if conservatives got an education they could apply for jobs at these agencies. most of the employees in these agencies that i know personally are republicans. maybe go back to school or just let it go and go fishing like most of us do.

Sshhh…let them keep screaming into the wind about communism and stolen elections. It keeps them occupied thinking they’re making legitimate arguments, and all the sane people in the world can just keep ignoring them.

A little trip down memory lane…..

FBI Under Fire for Investigating Liberal GroupsThe Department of Justice finds years of wrongdoing

September 20, 2010

The Department of Justice has found that the FBI improperly investigated several liberal activist groups, including Greenpeace and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), even placing them on the terrorist watch list. According to the DoJ’s investigation, these investigations between 2001 and 2006 were not legally justified and were not based on any substantive threat from the groups. The report also accuses FBI director Robert S. Mueller III of unintentionally providing false information to Congress about on of the FBI investigations. However, it absolves the FBI of the most serious charge: that the groups were targeted in retaliation for their speech. Here’s what people have to say about Justice’s conclusion.

  • Echoes of Hoover’s FBI  The Washington Post’s Jerry Markon writes, “The FBI was known for using questionable domestic spying tactics against antiwar demonstrators and others in the 1960s under longtime director J. Edgar Hoover. In recent years, the American Civil Liberties Union has accused the bureau of improperly monitoring antiwar demonstrators and environmental groups during the Bush administration.”
  • …Except Now We Accept It  The Washington Post’s Jeff Stein writes, “There was a time in the 1960s when the FBI’s illegal surveillance of left-wing groups seemed, and maybe even was, sinister if not broadly menacing. Parts of today’s Justice Department report on its more recent activities, however, evoke that old saw about history repeating itself as farce. … And compared with other, far more worrying invasions of civil rights by the government, such as its ongoing monitoring of Americans’ telephone calls and e-mails, it seems merely hapless.”

The FBI Has a Long History of Treating Political Dissent as TerrorismA new report documents the FBI’s history of violating the civil rights of political dissidents.
https://theintercept.com/2019/10/22/terrorism-fbi-political-dissent/
October 22 2019,

Since 2010, the FBI has surveilled black activists and Muslim Americans, Palestinian solidarity and peace activists, Abolish ICE protesters, Occupy Wall Street, environmentalists, Cuba and Iran normalization proponents, and protesters at the Republican National Convention. And that is just the surveillance we know of — as the civil liberties group Defending Rights & Dissent documents in a report published today. The report is a detailed catalog of known FBI First Amendment abuses and political surveillance since 2010, when the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General published the last official review of Bush-era abuses. The incidents the report references, many of which were previously covered by The Intercept, were largely exposed through public records requests by journalists, activists, and civil rights advocates. The FBI relentlessly fought those disclosures, and the documents we have were often so heavily redacted they only revealed the existence of initiatives like a “Race Paper” or an “Iron Fist” operation, both targeting racial justice activists, while giving away little detail about their content.

Hmm,

The FBI warrant to search former President Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago may be thrown out entirely in court, according to former FBI boss Kevin Brock.

News broke over Labor Day weekend that Trump had been granted a legal win when a federal judge justthenews.com/politics-policy/all-things-trump/federal-judge-hands-trump-win-orders-special-master-review” ordered a special master to review the documents seized from Trump’s home.
“I think the government would be concerned as well, because there’s concern that the the search warrant itself was overly broad from the get-go,” Kevin Brock said on americasvoice.news/video/cmYAgSx2f1ElPXs” target=”_blank” Just the News, Not Noise” Tuesday evening. “Because the scope that they were looking for was every single document generated during the Trump administration that just seems too inexcusably overbroad. Now there’s indications that they (the FBI) collected much more than they were authorized to collect.”
Brock said that he believes that the search warrant could be suppressed entirely.
“If I’m a prosecutor, I am concerned going forward that this search warrant could be suppressed and for those types of reasons, and they would lose access to anything that was collected throughout the search as a fruit of the poisonous tree,” Brock continued. “So I think that’s got to be in the back of their minds.”
Brock also criticized how the FBI raided Trump’s home and how usually when the FBI does investigations, they try to take the least intrusive route possible at first.
“You go into a home, you set up a system where those things that you seize are assiduously documented,” said Brock, explaining how FBI searches typically work. “They’re given a specific tracking number, a barcode and each piece is gone through meticulously before you leave the premises to make sure that it’s within the scope of the document.”
“And that’s only part one,” he continued. “Part two is the warrant is not to be overly broad as to what parts of the residence can be searched. You can only search those things where it’s reasonably expected you would find the type of evidence that you are looking for.”

Do you mean liberal biased sites? Yes. You haven’t ever linked to one in my memory. Off the top of my head, I think I’ve disabled links from Wonkette, the Palmer Report, and AlterNet.

I have linked to persons that have been on Democracy Now.
Also, the book, Manufacturing Consent.

Glenn Greenwald and a few others.
None of the above are RW.
