This morning, multiple agencies have converged on the 24000 block of State Route 20 outside of Fort Bragg to find 74-year-old Thomas Arrants, a man that suffers from dementia and has not been seen since yesterday afternoon.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten told us Arrants was last seen at his residence near the 24000 block of Highway 20 yesterday at 1:00 p.m.

Arrants’s family contacted MCSO at 8:47 p.m. last night after conducting their own several-hour search of the surrounding area.

Last night, Captain Van Patten said that deputies, along with the assistance of CAL FIRE, conducted a hasty search in the darkness to no avail.

This morning, Mendocino County’s Search and Rescue team along with CAL FIRE and National Guard Personnel are amassing to search for the missing man.

Captain Van Patten made note that Arrants is known to walk for extended periods of time and has “gone missing under similar circumstances previously.”

74-year-old Thomas Arrants was last seen wearing a camo jacket, black sweatpants, and black/red tennis. He has gray, shoulder-length hair and a gray beard.

If you have information that could help find Thomas Arrants, contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 463-4086.

I can see where Apple Air tags could be lifesaving in some cases.

Kym,

“…to search for…”, instead of, “…to find…”, in the opening paragraph?

After I first read this, I honestly thought he had been found this morning, after he had been missing since yesterday afternoon…

Just a thought…

Thanks…

That “multiple agencies have converged, ‘to find’, him”, could have been an update, suggesting that they arrived to find him, say, safe and sound, or not…

Saying instead, that, “multiple agencies have converged, “[to attempt], to find him”, or, “…[to try] to find him…”, may have been more concrete.

Searching ones “conscience”,
leads to one being, more “conscientious”.

But hey, what’s the difference, right?

UPDATE: When I see this I know it’s an update. But that’s just me.

In the same paragraph, it states: a man that suffers from dementia and has not been seen since yesterday afternoon.

True, I must have, upon a cursory once-over, read that particular “has”, as “had”…

If they all showed up “to find him”, that may have showed overconfidence, because they didn’t find him.

They may have all searched for him, but they didn’t find him.

Unfortunately.

I sure hope they locate him, and he will be ok. Considering he has done this in the past I think it is time for his family to have a family member or a trusted person to be with him 24/7 for his own protection. Dementia is a cruel disease that leaves one, for the lack of a better word, in the twilight zone. Sad and scary.
