Who wants to defund the police? Come live in SoHum and tell me that to my face. We already have been defunded.
What a joke.

There are plenty of “funds” for police in Sohum, they are just spent on the wrong things.

What a sh*t show.

Doesn’t matter how you slice the pie, democrats are democrats, republicans are republicans, and both parties are the same at their core. It’s the same old bipolar political sh*tshow, and they’ve been running this country into the ground for decades.

Good morning! Everybody should just vote alphabetically, or based on who has the biggest tits or something. Won’t make a difference right now, there are no real revolutionaries on the ballot.

I find it interesting that they are not endiing a candidate for AC.

Whoever thinks that simply replacing the financially ethical Paz- Dominguez with some crony will magically resolve and reconcile Humboldt County Government’s deeply rooted, long-standing, errant, devious, miscreant, grifting, corrupt, haphazard, incompetent, self-serving ways, is sadly mistaken, even delusional.

If it comes to pass, there will be a resumption to the “Humboldt County Government fiscally irresponsible celebration”, with minimal energy expended, at increasingly unsustainable, maximum taxpayer fleecing and expense, promotions galore, and completely inadequate, non-existent oversight, on a swift and sure path to total insolvency.

Take your pick.

I will be voting for Paz-Dominguez again, while I wait to see what the State Auditors’ investigations reveal…

It should be a real eye opener.

I really don’t think any State Auditors’ investigations would even have been initiated at all, if their wasn’t a very good reason to justify them…

( It means, “something smells rotten in Denmark”)

I just wish that the State would hurry up and reveal the results.

Where there is corruption, (and I have no doubt there is), it needs to be stopped, ASAP.

Im voting for her, even though I believe she did create a hostile work environment. No other AC is going to call out the BS going on in the county.

As we watch the Dems destroy our country spending cash like no other . Letting crime go unpunished . Basically raping our communities. Planning on take money from the working folk to fund Billionaires plans . I would hope none of these people get elected.

Cant really blame dems for refusing to lock up the drug addicted and mentally ill, not when it is clear that we should have state funded programs for them, and we dont due to conservatives resistance.

Whoa! That’s a load of partisan blindness. “Conservativess”- which you wrongly equate with Republicans- have not had even a spoiler political role in California in decades. When does the party that has virtually ALL the political power have to take responsibility for worsening problems? The basic source of the collapse of mental health resources was Lanterman- Petris-Short Act, which was passed by a Democrat legislature under a Democrat governor and only left to the new Republican governor to sign in his first month of office, is so entrenched that actually fixing it to be useful is something Democrats and especially Progressives won’t touch with a ten foot pole. Being fixated on blame tends to keep people from actually doing something.

As I read the comments in this section, I am reminded that our council wants to stop all future drive thru restaurants. The amount of sales tax accrued for the city was quite substantial from these businesses. People traveling through and our own citizens pay to help fund our city services with this tax. Just think about this the next time the tears flow and a measure is placed on the ballot to raise taxes or services will be cut.

What a sh*t show.

“The amount of sales tax accrued for the city was quite substantial from these businesses.”

“The city” takes a cut from the money given to the business by the people. The businesses, all of them, if not entirely local, funnel money out of county. Next time you drive past in-n-out burger, remember they’re funneling over a quarter million local dollars out of county every year after expenses. Target is costing the people of the county millions per year, as is starbucks etc. Their profits after taxes and payroll etc. don’t stay here.

…and don’t buy the myth that there’s such a thing as a “locally owned” franchise. Of course I shop at non local businesses, but I’m not going to lie to myself or anybody that it’s not doing our local economy any good, and we don’t need more corporate businesses taking over our commercial allotments.

“During Tuesdays meeting, City Principal Planner Kristen Goetz” said this “During the same period, Goetz said seven drive-thrus generated over $263,000 in sales tax revue for the GENERAL FUND.”

So we the people spent well over $1,000,000 out of pocket through seven drive-thrus and “the city” gets $250k. And all of the peoples’ fees, taxes and costs of living are up. And the supervisors voted to give themselves pay raises.

I don’t know what to tell you. I bought a piece of clothing about a month ago for $55.00. The sales tax on that item was $4.00. Add up all items, fees, permits, etc and tell me how much money is coming in from these sources to the general fund.

What a sh*t show.

Research how much localized money in and out burger has to be able to funnel to corporate conglomerates before even opening a drive thru. Every year, at least $250k disaappears completely from our economy through them. A local restaurant is a much different story.

Multiply in and out’s gains by more than a hundred to realize how much locally earned money spent at target disappears from Humboldt county every year,

Ok. I get the $$ that goes out of county, but the amount of $$ we have received is not totally reflected in the figure that was given at the council’s meeting. In and out wasn’t open fully during the time period quoted because of the pandemic. The gas tax is set to be raised more by 5.6% in July!! Money that will not stay here just like a big corporations My point is that the clothing item I bought for $55.00 and I had to pay an extra $4.00 for just one item just think about how much money you are paying when you add up everything you buy and are due in various taxes/fees, etc. If the city council wants to stop the drive thru money, my point is, don’t start with the tears and claim a measure needs to be placed on the ballot to get more money in property/sales taxes.

What a sh*t show.

Agreed, I would never support taxing the people or their property more to compensate the city/county/state/nation’s poor (selfish) financial management. Plenty of alternatives exist that are kept from the narrative altogether.

The supervisors gave themselves a nice raise, though.

Progressive dems don’t know the meaning of “transparency in gov”. Justice for whom? Criminals? Men Identify as women so they can be placed in women’s prisons, that’s progressive alright! Now 2 babies will be born in prison because those he/she still had their junk?
affordable housing as drought conditions remain, already over stressed unstable grid system.
DON’T just vote PARTY, think for yourself, read up on candidates,(take into consideration that all politicians lie)
decide who might actually consider “We the People” important.

By the 3rd time they said “progressive” I almost puked. Hey- I’ve been a revolutionary my whole life and I will never forgive what the DEMs did to Bernie. Or what the DEMs do to all of us while they pretend to be “progressive”. I like Madrone because he is reasonable and intelligent and cares, not because he’s “progressive”. Anybody pushing their “progressive” creds is suspect. I’ve seen a couple independents and even a REP or two be more progressive than the self-proclaimed “progressives”. They have ruined that word with their fervish cultishness.
