Press release from the CHP:

On 04/11/2022, at approximately 1435 hours, a brown Nissan pickup truck with one occupant was traveling northbound on US-101 south of Spy Rock Road. A white Peterbilt truck tractor with a flatbed trailer hauling pallets of soil with a solo occupant was traveling southbound on US-101 south of Spy Rock Road just north of the Nissan. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan crossed from the northbound lane over the solid double yellow lines into the southbound lane into the direct path of the Peterbilt. The Nissan struck the Peterbilt head on and both vehicles and the Peterbilts load came to rest blocking the entire portion of US-101. As a result of the crash the Nissan became fully

engulfed in flames and the driver died at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt sustained major injuries and was transported to Howard Memorial Hospital from the scene for medical care. US-101 was closed in both directions for approximately six hours for the investigation, clean-up and vehicle recovery. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.

There were two dogs in the Nissan at the time of the crash. One of the dogs died as a result of the crash and the other was taken to the Mendocino County Animal Control Shelter.

The California Highway Patrol, Cal-Trans , Laytonville Fire Department, Cal Fire , Mendocino County Sheriffs Department, and Mendocino County Animal Control all responded to the scene. This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol – Garberville AreaCHP TC Fatal 4.12.2022

The family of the person in the dark colored Nissan was notified yesterday so no need for other folks to worry about their loved ones being in this wreck.

My thoughts go out to the family.

What does color have to do with anything when you cross over the line?

Wow wtf is your problem, I want to know I have friends and family that drive raptors when I saw it yesterday I thought the worst . I own one as well but it’s an older model so I knew it wasn’t my wife right away.

It was my moms 2021 Nissan Titan. Her name was Ceva Renee McWhorter (King) out of Fortuna, CA. Age 63. I’m very sorry for the injured driver. I hope you recover. And if the report is correct and my mom was at fault, I’m especially distraught!!! I’m here now from KY, the oldest next of kin (son).

We are so very sorry. My family spent our childhood with Ceva and her siblings. The Harris family sends our deepest sympathy to the entire McWhorter family. Even as a child, Ceva was one of a kind, full of life. Rest In Peace Ceva.

Just looking at that unnecessary picture breaks my heart. I am so very sorry that the lady in the Nissan pickup passed away as a result of the accident. My condolences to her family and friends. Sad that one of her dogs was also killed. May she and her dog buddy RIP. I sure hope that the truck driver will heal from his serious injuries also.

We capture both the good and bad images of the world. This is reality unfolding. I’m not sure I understand this concern shared, how the picture is unnecessary.

Sending condolences to the family.

Because the family will see the truck on fire and know their mom is burning to death! Do you understand now?

Kym, that still does not change my mind on the photo. Sorry, it just seems it should have not been shown. Thank you for the lead and I hope you don’t block me for commenting like that.

Kim, I am not criticizing you at all. It is just me Kim. The photo really bothered me, and I am sure others also.

She had already passed, although it doesn’t make it easier to see, she didn’t suffer. Her family already knows the details & we can not censor ourselves of the awful accidents we all face at one point in Time. If u don’t want to see it, please skip over. Thank you

Actually, my mom died instantly. The man in the picture got into the truck with her trying to save her. She was totally pinned in and crushed. He took her pulse and it was expired. He yelled at her and got no response. She was petite, so her neck probably snapped instantly. Regardless, I’m happy and very thankful for the two men who tried to save my mom and for the details they gave me of what she looked like inside. Once the soul leaves the body, the fire can only consume – not invoke pain!!! I’ll say it again…..my sister and I have had no problem with the pictures posted or the majority of the posts given.

I am extremely sorry to learn that the truck driver lost both the bottom of his legs because of the accident that was not his fault at all.

Are you sure? At the time of the accident he only had a broken right leg. My partner pulled him out of the truck.

Please check your facts on this…..it’s important that I know the truth. It’s been difficult to find out anything and I am concerned, gravely concerned about injuries that my mom may have cause though we still don’t know the specifics on why she crossed that line.

I’ve been following for updates. I was so close by the accident and it shook me a bit because I decided to slow down and stop for bathroom 20 minutes before the accident had happened. I’m so sorry for all those who was involved in the accident. I am curious to know why she crossed the line? I’m so sorry for your loss, she knows a lot of people I know and she seems like a wonderful woman.
