Law Enforcement Captures Suspect Danny Fidler After High-Speed Chase Near Fortuna

This afternoon about 4:30 p.m., law enforcement officers apprehended Danny Fidler, a suspect wanted for allegedly committing multiple crimes, following a high-speed chase that began near Fortuna. Fidler, identified in an earlier press release as an armed career criminal, allegedly led officers on a pursuit that began on Drake Hill Road and ended off Hwy 36 near Carlotta with speeds reaching up to 100 mph at times.

According to reports over the scanner, the chase began when an officer spotted Fidler driving a red vehicle, possibly a BMW. Despite attempts to initiate a traffic stop, Fidler accelerated and the officer pursued him. Fidler passed Wolverton Cooper Gulch with an officer hot on his trail.

As the chase continued, Fidler’s vehicle was seen heading east on Hwy 36 toward Hydesville, hitting speeds of 90 mph and beyond. Fidler lost a tire north of the post office in Carlotta possibly due to spike strip. But that is unconfirmed. The suspect then turned onto a dirt road just past the post office, reducing his speed to 25 mph as he approached a dead end.

Fidler was apprehended without further incident. (We are pretty sure we heard a holler of excitement though from the officer who managed to take him into custody.)

Fidler was previously wanted in connection with the discovery of a chop shop by Fortuna Police. Officers had uncovered the illegal operation during a routine patrol, linking Fidler to the dismantling of stolen vehicles. He is also suspected of multiple other crimes, including armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

Why do they let these chases get to those speeds? No ned for that, and could result in innocent people getting killed. He could have been easily blocked in.

Cowboy cop looking for thrills.

Calm yourself. No one said “No chase”. Speeds are a concern …it is nuance/degree not “to chase or not to chase”.

Maybe it was done in a safe manner and facts are many are not and innocents pay the ultimate price. No one is injured in high speed chases until they are. It is like a teen saying oh I’ve driven that mountain road at 80 all the time then one day off the cliff he goes.

Have you seen Mad Max? That’s why! I suggest the uncut Australian version. It’s a masterpiece followed up by the Road Warrior.

100 mph is to fast, crash into something solid, and you’ll sing a different tune, that is you’re still able sing.

Law enforcement officers are trained in high speed pursuit, including when it’s prudent and when it’s not. These officers executed the mission perfectly. No casualties, no collateral damage.

Thrills? Are you kidding me? These women and men run the risk of not coming home to their family every time they go to work. You think they do that for kicks?

How about we stop painting with so broad a brush as if all LE officers are great. LE is better protected than so many people from injury and “Not coming home”. FIrefighters end up with cancer at higher rates and many not even paid! Mental hospital workers, PGE and Cal Trans workers and EMTs and so many others risk not coming home at a greater rate than LE. LE is 22nd on this list of professions not paid well enough and given little appreciation, aknowledgement or credit while LE has TV shows in which they control the narrative and PR access all the time. The martyred hero persona is not fitting to all nor most and is so tired already. Driving through Fortuna saw new station and while they needed one they didn’t need the level off protection that place has with houses all around that have none and now police station at the base of wealthy neighborhood and away from businesses.

“He could have easily been blocked in”? How easily could he have been blocked in? He’s the one that started the pursuit by fleeing. This guy has been in several pursuits over the past week that officers have terminated when they got too dangerous.

Good point. He is putting lots of peoples lives in danger. They should have shot him to stop him.

Would all those charges racked up against this model citizen qualify him for lodging behind bars, or has he already been released?

If the known suspect had pulled his vehicle up next to a tall fence and hopped onto the top of it to climb up, the police would have said __________________________ into the radio?

Not even considering the crimes he might be wanted for, he’s bad rubbish for leading that chase. I don’t need to know one more thing to know i’d love to say good riddance to that bad rubbish, too. Hey, Bonnie.

I think the death penalty should be expanded beyond murders. And this guy might qualify. I don’t want him out and I don’t want my taxes feeding and sheltering him. So there!

And apparently you don’t want US to mature and learn and start addressing the causes of so much violence and crime in our society? If you like death penalty for theft go to Sadi Arabia and live.

Isn’t Fidler one of “the causes of so much violence and crime in our society”? Farce has a clear plan to address the direct causes of problems.

By all accounts our LEOs took a career criminal off the street. We’ll see what the DA does. At least for now we’re all a little bit safer.

if this guy never does anything that he can do time in jail for “why the hell do they keep harassing him”. he should sue HCSO for stalking and harassment!! if he did nothing wrong how can they justify using all these resources to keep arresting him only to immediately let him back out knowing he is a threat to the community!!
