Good job, folks ! …
This reminds me…
Time to load the backpack sprayer, and get another fire extinguisher or two…, (Or three or four).
Shovels, etc.
It’s happening a lot earlier this year.
Nice work by everyone who pulled over to help!
15 hippies…really? That’s silly journalism.
I think it’s great. Hippies and truck drivers, we have more in common than we have differences. We need to remind folks of this.
This is humboldt… silly things happen
Back in ‘97 I was trying to put out a grass fire by myself along the road in Grand Teton National Park. Numerous people slowed down and gawked, one person asked if I needed help, then sped away after I said yes. The fire was getting away from me when a VW bus with 3 hippies pulled over and they jumped out with a wool blanket and shovels. The 4 of us managed to put it out. I stayed to make sure all the embers were totally out. One of the hippies said, “You good dude? We’re gonna get out of here before any cops show up. Take care!”
Those hippies saved the day.
Big thanks to all who stopped to fight the flames today!!!
That’s a great story!
So, 15 hippies and big truck guys walk into a bar….good time had by all.
People throwing still lit cigarette butts out the window of a car should become a serious crime!
I have put out two different fires caused by idiots throwing butts out the window along the side of the road.
After dark I have followed behind cars with people who drop them out the window and watched as the ember bounces off the pavement.
Throwing cig butts or garbage out of vehicles, humans are the only animals that trash our earth! Thanks to those who stopped to put out the fire.
Hippies? How did she know they were hippies? Did they have t-shirts that said “Hippies” Were they long haired and dirty?
She must have ran across the last hippies on earth. I thought they went extinct years ago.
Been to Arcata plaza lately ? Same bums different name .
That is a mean thing to say Just because people dress different then you doesn’t mean they are bums
Yup!
Hey Mt man the homeless drug addicted “bums” everywhere in the whole damn USA are mentally ill with little to no education(thanks to federal education standards) and little to no hope.
Hippies n the other hand along with many other alternative minded folks including Vietnam vets, disillusioned suburban and city escapees, and even a few loggers kids and others built homesteads, founded environmental and other community orginizations, started schools, started fire departments and yup grew the best OG KUSH and Worked their damn tails off to turnabout worthless logged over destroyed land into Gorgeous Farms and Homesteads that are still mostly doing ok in spite of the stupid pot price collapse!! Because it was Never just about pot!
So yeah Mt man what about that Arcata plaza!
amen
Tell us mountain man , which bum are you, the better or the worse? Take of your glasses and see beyond that long nose of yours.
I haven’t seen a hippie since 1969…
OFFS, Have you met Schmitt?
Ho do you know they were hippies that was probably just the fire department in that neck of the woods ???????????????
Citizens?
Hmm..
Sounds like a nationalist term..
Good job anyways???
Quick thinking with todays wind. This year, be vigilant, fire can happen anywhere. Many Californians are feeling PTSD from the wildfires devastating entire communities over the last 3+ years. Be safe everyone ?
Pick up trucks, rural roads and shovels; they go together.
Hippies….gotta love em
I Do!☮??
Umm…No you don’t! But I like anybody who stops to put out fires…
I myself fetched a fire extinguisher and put out a fire last year.
The hippies exist! They are just a bit older…
If we had waited for the fire department to show up, it would have been a potential disaster…
Where I live, there’s a Senior Citizen Volunteer Fire Department, and a gal a couple years younger than me dragger a neighbor’s hose over to make sure…
COSTCO had 5 lb extinguishers for $25, and I strongly endorse everyone carrying 2 in their car at all times.
A car fire started the Carr Fire a couple years ago, which burned parts of Redding and toasted the area from Whiskeytown Lake almost to Trinity Lake… An extinguisher probably could have helped…
Good luck may save us all, but being prepared is probably a better idea.
This is why I always carry a full, easily accessible 5 gallon piss pump in my truck all year round.
Go Lauren go! Gotta love that girl…
