‘All involved individuals have been identified’ in Sunday’s Suspicious Death Investigation, Says HCSO

Thank you to the numerous community members who have called in providing information to our investigators regarding Sunday’s law enforcement investigation in Kneeland/Arcata.
This remains a suspicious death investigation- that means it is still under investigation and manner of death (e.g. homicide, accidental, natural, etc.) has not yet been determined. At this time, all involved individuals have been identified. Due to the ongoing investigation, identifications of involved individuals are being withheld until disclosure is appropriate.
There is currently no evidence to suggest that the Arcata community is at any elevated risk as a result of this investigation. Please continue taking normal safety precautions when recreating anywhere within our county.
Please remember these tips when practicing personal safety:
Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings (avoid using headphones in both ears while jogging or recreating, especially near a roadway).

It’s sad to see pictures of that van with its rope handles to allow easier access for a person with severe disabilities and know that it- and maybe life itself- was stolen from them. Much respect for that person who was actively dealing with those limits.
This is such a weird approach from the police and media. Special needs person dies (at first it seems like murder) and the perp escapes in a stolen van after attacking the caretaker and gets away via redwood forest. He wasn’t found but they now know who he is (meaning they could release a photo of him) and there’s no threat to the public? Super strange to me. Wonder what’s the reason for this approach.
Agreed completely – been baffled by the approach as well. Especially not releasing a photo. Am an HSU student and this is the message we were all sent via text message:
“HUMBOLDT NOTIFICATION: UPD searching for white male, 20-30, scruffy brown hair in Arcata Comm. Forest. If you contact, use caution & call 707-826-5555 or 911”
That description matches over half the male students here, many of whom probably spend a good deal of time in the forest…So yeah – call 911 on em and assume they’re all murderers – but no threat here nothing to see 😂😂😅😅 I’m guessing it’s some kind of incompetence on the Police/Investigators end, but I could be wrong. Perhaps there’s more to the story.

Am also a highly emotional/sensitive guy who has never been in a physical fight with anyone, and also have some past traumas from a number of incidents while living in Redding where trucks tried to run me off the road/followed me with their brights on while nearly on my bumper. All because my car is all colorful and ridiculous, and I had a ton of Bernie Sanders stickers on it and stuff like ‘end the war on drugs’. So yeah…pretty sure they associated that with ANTIFA and were all worked up over it from listening to conservative talk radio/Fox News. Got rid of everything political on the car after that and it doesn’t seem like it’s helped…
But yeah – just venting here more or less. I know full and well there’s nothing I can do about the epidemic of toxic male dominator ego sweeping across the country, with their big ol trucks that may big big sound and have insanely bright lights to blind everyone and they drive recklessly with no consideration to anyone. Gotta let everyone know how hard and how big they are I suppose. That, and this country has failed them in many, many ways…And the mommy/daddy issues of course. Collapse of a civilization – similar thing happens every time – Just like the Hun in China.. Poop.
I’m gonna move out of country by the end of this year, breaks my f@#*ing heart tho. Humboldt is my home. Grew up in Suburbs of Chicago, been all across this country, traveled extensively abroad, yet I Never felt that feeling of being ‘home’ at any of those places. Ever since I first hitchhiker through here though…It was pure magic. The Redwoods, the coastline, the Lost Coast Road and trail, Fern Canyon, all the weed. Felt a spiritual/past lives kind of connection I’d never felt before. And now…I can’t stay here. Chickens are coming home to roost, America is collapsing, and I know that if I stay much longer that it won’t end well for me. A losing battle through and through.. and it breaks my damn heart…
Suppose that’s life though. Everything is impermanent and the suffering is endless! Sure can be beautiful though…Best of luck to all of you as history goes through it’s concluding phase these next couple of decades (at most I’m guessing). Brace yourselves and try to focus on looking inwards, exploring your spiritual self – it’s the only way through all of this.

And then yesterday morning there was a vehicle theft at 12th and Union in Arcata, just a couple blocks from Redwood Park. My first assumption was that it was the guy coming out of the forest and stealing a car.

This kids dad works for CVS corporate.. he’s probably getting a good lawyer. I spent a looottt of time with him around 2015 (he went by the traveling name “Samwise Ganja” and his buddy was “Frodo Bongrips”). He’s feisty, never really thought he would *actually* do something like this, at the same time all the reports sound like stuff he would talk/fantasize about doing if he had a good reason. He always had some noble motive behind his criminal inclinations but I sure am glad that I coincidentally deleted my Facebook right before this happened.
