Just after 4 a.m., a large structure fire broke out at 192 Belleview Avenue on the north side of Rio Dell on the west side of Hwy 101. A Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department all call went out across the scanner.

As firefighters began arriving at the home, they found flames coming from the second story of the older building.

All residents were able to escape the fire and they have been put in touch with the Red Cross for their immediate needs as the fire damaged the home extensively.Photos from the home this morning show a sadly damaged building. [Photos from Perdeda Scott]Perdeda Scott, a family member of the home owner, told us that the home was built from redwood. She said that her aunt’s grandmother built the home herself. “My family had lived in that house since the beginning,” she said. “I haven’t seen the damages yet but my aunt said the bedroom my grandma had and the living room were the only two rooms untouched…so the front of the house and the second story were a loss… .”

Firefighters from Scotia, Fortuna, and Ferndale came to assist Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department.

I am so very thankful that the folks got out of the burning house ok. Being built of redwood and very dry the fire probably spread rapidly. Interesting that the bedroom and living room her grandma had were left untouched. A very big THANK YOU to the firefighters from the Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department, Scotia Fire Department, Fortuna Fire Department and the Ferndale Fire Department. Our volunteer heroes for sure! I pray that the Red Cross and community members will lend a hand to help these folks get back on their feet.

I was awake at that time and turned on my scanner to see where the siren calls were for. I had seen this home for years as I lived in Rio Dell and Scotia for years. This is a very tragic loss for the Family and would hope that they can get ALL of the the help that they will need on there COLD AND WET DAYS that we’ve been having. I will try to have extra funds to donate to the Red Cross to help out with their outlay of funds or materials.

Thank you for your kindness it’s a devastating loss many generations of old family grew up in that home and it’s had a tremendous amount of sentimental value yes it was old and needed some updates but it was home to my grandma who passed away not long ago and my dad, aunt, and uncle growing up as well as my landing spot during the hard times I have fallen back to my parents place when moving back to California and my children children and cousin it was a life saver for all of us at one point or another thank God my aunt and cousin
were able to get out and all pets are fine but it’s a sad day for sure
