“Sugar Bear,” 2021 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, to be Harvested Oct. 24

Seal of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree 2021Press release from Six Rivers National Forest Service:

After almost a year of planning, the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, an 84-foot white fir nicknamed “Sugar Bear,” will be harvested from the Six Rivers National Forest in a virtual ceremony on Oct. 24, 2021 at 10 AM.

The harvest ceremony will include a blessing by the Lassic Band of Wylacki-Wintoon Family Group Inc., as well as brief remarks by USDA Forest Service leadership, local elected officials, project partners, and the yet-to-be-announced local youth tree lighter.

The public is invited to view this significant milestone during a livestream of the ceremony available on the Six Rivers National Forest Facebook page, starting at 10 AM.

The People’s Tree will be harvested using a two-person crosscut saw, which is more eco-friendly and fire safe, as well as celebrates decades of U.S. Forest Service crosscutting tradition. It will be supported by cranes provided Mountain F Enterprises, and then transported by West Coast trucking carrier System Transport using a specially-decaled Kenworth T68O Next Generation  truck.

Once wrapped and secured, the People’s Tree will begin its journey from Northern California to Washington, D.C., Oct. 29. On its almost 3,500 mile journey, the tree will visit more than 20 communities* throughout California and across the United States for a series of outdoor festivities hosted by local organizations.

The tree will be displayed on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., with a tree-lighting ceremony hosted by the Architect of the Capitol and Speaker of the House in early December.

I agree! If this new administration is truly committed to fighting climate change, they would abandon old traditions such as cutting a beautiful live tree from our suffering forests and hauling them to DC via fossil fuel driven vehicles. They should plant a living tree on the White House lawn to be decorated each Christmas if they feel that they must have a tree. It saddens and sickens me to think of them taking this tree from the forest. Especially since we have lost so many trees to fires in the past several years. Justice for Sugar Bear!!!!!

Why not start a tradition of pardoning the Christmas tree like they do the turkey? While my white fir gently weeps…

They should be thankful they even have a tree to send after all the fires we have had.

I was told today that the tree can be viewed somewhere in Eureka on October 29th and at River Lodge in Fortuna on October 30th along with all the ornaments and tree skirts being donated by the local communities.
Interesting this article doesn’t mention either of those events.

But wait! I feel offended by the term “Christmas’! I need a puppy hug and a blanket!

I thought we determined Christianity to be offensive and evil to some. Shouldn’t it be called a “Holiday tree”? Heaven Forbid! Oh, wait . . Sorry – – There might not be a Heaven in some people’s religion. I hope I didn’t offend anyone by thinking.

Now that King Newsome has deemed gas powered machines illegal I can see why they are using a cross cut saw however! Ohhhmmmm.

I feel so much better knowing a living breathing tree named “Sugar Bear” that is capturing carbon will be sacrificed ( harvested ) to the alter of the White GOD without hurting the climate. But Uh isn’t cutting a tree down counter intuitive to the narrative? Oh, now I’m confused. I need TWO puppy hugs and an ice cream cone.

I’ll bet that Resident Biden et al will wish everyone “Happy Holidays” when they light it up. Prove me wrong in two months.

If you had just called it a “Holiday Tree” I might have been able to sleep tonight….
